Names I don't think I've seen but belong in this thread (recognizing that taste is a personal thing):
Mike Birbiglia
Iliza Schlesinger
Richard Pryor
Russell Peters
Trevor Noah
John Mulaney
Bo Burnham
Taylor Tomlinson
Tom Segura
Ali Wong
Jimmy Carr
Hannah Gadsby
Ellen Degeneres
Michelle Wolf
Craig Ferguson
Michael Che
Adam Sandler
Christina P
Whitney Cummings
Ricky Gervais
Tig Notario
Michael McIntyre
Brian Regan
Deon Cole
The best have already been mentioned, and are:
Eddy Murphy, Louis CK and Norm McDonald, with honourable mentions for Dave Chappelle and Sarah Silverman
The worst popular ones (imho):
Jeff Foxworthy, Jeff Dunham, Larry the Cable Guy and all the other idiots in that group, plus Kevin Hart, Tracy Morgan
There are a lot of other names I haven't mentioned because I could take them or leave them. I love good stand up. The best stand up comics are among the smartest people walking among us...

I don't know if they have the brightest minds but they seem to have the quickest minds.
Most of my favorites have already been listed, but my top 5 (in no order) are probably:
Eddie Murphy (Delirious and Raw might be the 2 best complete shows I’ve seen)
Chapelle
Bill Burr
Norm McDonald
Aziz Ansari
Honorable mention:
Hedberg
Steven Wright
Nate Bergatze
Chris Rock
Dmetri Martin
Finally some sense. HAVE to have Norm and Eddie. And Chris Rock is way better than Jerry. Are we talking stand up here? Is chapelle a stand up? I feel like he talks about stuff in a funny way but doesnt make actual stand up jokes. Kind of like a genius writer.

There's different kind's of stand up. Stand up is about making the crowd laugh whether it's through social commentary like Carlin and Chapelle, one liners like Wright and Dangerfield or anything in between.
Actual stand-ups all consider Chapelle to be one of the greats.
I was at Ding Ho's in Cambridge, Massachusetts the night that Wright was discovered by a Tonight Show producer in 1982. The next week he amused Johnny Carson on national tv.
Pretty male-dominated list you have there. I guess you don't find Ellen DeGeneres, Rita Rudner, Wanda Sykes, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, or Sarah Silverman funny.
Women generally aren't very good at stand-up but there are a few. I like Silverman, Nikki Glaser, and Roseanne.
As for the rest any list which does not include Norm McDonald is incorrect.
I agree generally with you on women and standup. Ellen DeGeneres was actually great back in the day and belongs on my list. Kathleen Madigan is my favorite female comic and she belongs on my list. I think Tig Notaro is very good and belongs on my list. Roseanne was interesting early on. Unfortunately, too many of the other female comics, especially the current ones (like Nikki Glaser) rely on sexual humor which can be funny, but it's easy, so I'm not impressed by that.
Norm Macdonald (notice the proper spelling) was a glaring error. He might be my all-time favorite. Another omission from my list would be Mike Birbiglia.

That is cool. He talked about how he was discovered on his first show with Carson. Cool that you were there.

With Mike Roche and Randy Thomas. I think that Tommy Ratcliffe might have been with us as well. It was a Pro-Am night hosted by Lenny Clarke. Easy to remember the date as it was Randy and mine birthdays.
