Bad races happen, and health problems can amount over a course of years. In his case, however, I fear that he burned himself out with overtraining and may not be as good again as he was back in 2019. I hope he gets it back, though. Maybe it'll be something in between. He doesn't run the 2:04-2:05 that it seemed like he'd be able to run, but he doesn't have health issues on the day and runs 2:07-2:08.
Hate to state a potential obvious here - but the guy was training for long periods of time in East Africa where we know for a fact that access to "certain things" wasn't exactly a difficult exercise.

Some guys are no meant to run marathons period, but too early to prove this since it was his debut. Hopefully he can run at least 2:08 in his next one otherwise No future for him in the Marathon. These days you gotta be at least a 2:05 - 2:06 guy to be considered a decent contender for podium.
Trains too hard too often, leaves it in training and can't raise his game on race day, doesn't taper or recover properly. WTF do you need a shake out run for at 4 am when running a marathon with a fairly early start. You don't even need as much of a warm up compared to normal for a marathon, its 26 miles for God sake. Over thinking and exhausting himself. How can you not prepare your fueling properly at his level and know what works. Johnny Mellor ran 2:10 to win the Manchester Marathon in the Uk. Wanders trains all that time in Kenya with some of the best in the world and can't even run faster than a guy with a 10k time over a minute slower and a half marathon time nearly 3 mins slower. All that hard work and sacrifice is pointless if you can't find balance and make use of the training. He would have just about made the top 3 in Manchester, a C level marathon.
Remember the Julian wanders hype 3 years ago? 59:13 and 27:17 for a European guy at a young age? Clearly the man has been struggling with something and I feel really bad, but at what point is it not his fault? It’s sad but oh well

Their workouts are enormous, Canova special block etc.. So I would have expected more than 2:11 for Julien, but again it was his debut.. He will learn from it.

Absolutely, Wanders has a best time of 27:17 for 10,000 m on the track in 2019 when he ran all his personal bests on the track. That time is an absolute monster time especially for someone who considers himself a road runner. Interestingly, Wanders and Carlos Lopes, the Portuguese Olympic marathon champion from 1984, share the same personal best (27:17) for 10,000 m.
I have watched Julian's/Canova's group alot training in Iten in preparation for this season and last year's autumn season.I personally think they over-train.I see too many hard-core sessions without sufficient recovery. The athletes seem miserable. It was clear to me Julian in particular wasn't happy. The athletes do not seem to enjoy it;it seems like punishment rather than training. Just look at the results, they tell a story.

He's run poorly now for a considerable period of time. This followed a short period of time while he was living and training in Kenya and running incredibly.
You don't see a connection here? Ran well while training and living in Kenya where there is easy access to doping and basically zero control, since not living and training in Kenya is not running well (for an extended period of time). I mean how hard is this to grasp?

I'm not just talking about just his Marathon, or are you going to try and argue that this insanely talented athlete doesn't consistently underperform in the majority of his races?
