A coworkers son was on his high school's track team. He decided to run a marathon before the track season started. His coach warned him that if he would be DONE for the season. The son ran it anyway. He did not run track for his team. My coworker said the problem was son thought he wouldn't miss-a-beat and he would immediately run and train like always. He ended up injuring himself by ignoring any post-marathon recovery.
Well done, but the bigger picture with these kinds of performances always confuse. He's run a great marathon time, but what does a college coach do with that. His track and xc times are decent but not D1 level. (Maybe he doesn't want to run in college?) He appears to run unattached which happens when a high school program is weak or the coach is a retard.
yeah he's not going to do much better in college. he has no leg speed (2:10 800) but runs insanely high mileage so he's able to run a 4:24 1600 and a 9:16 3200.
Also has no kick which is (very obviously) shown when he's running against somebody with similar times
Always amazes me how much negativity comes out in some of these forums. Kid drops an amazing time and for whatever reason, people want to jump all over him saying he’s going nowhere, yada yada ……….

Most likely he's talking pre-Calc or Calc I right now. Algebra is taught in 9th grade where I come from.
Wow, there's at least a full second in there, maybe even 1.5 if he hadn't gone out so slow. That puts him under 2:22.50. I wonder if he ran the tangents properly?
He probably lost a second or two accelerating from a dead stop at the start. A little technique work would help fix that.
not degrading his performance, it's a new record and objectively a very good time. what i'm saying is that he has no leg speed and is running very high mileage so i don't think he's going to be able to improve faster than around 2:15 when he's fully grown.
i've not raced him, but a couple of my friends from other schools have. he's an aerobic monster but I'd be surprised if he could run faster than a 61-62 400
