Renato laid out the cultural differences quite clearly. There’s one guy of any note here (as a non-retired athlete), and he’s not good enough that anyone besides him is monitoring his whereabouts or worried about him missing tests.
2 retired guys and a C-level Kenyan don’t bother to abide by the testing protocols. Really grasping for straws are we?
Kimutai, now age 29, has run a 2:09:46 in Taiyuan. Sure, let's call that C level.
Gachaga, now age 26, has run a 2:05:09 in Paris.
Kisorio, now age 32, has run a 58:46 in Philadelphia and a 2:04:53 in Valencia.
That they haven't raced since the pandemic, does not mean they are retired (and coincidentally forgot to notify AKAD/AIU/WADA). With 26 and 32 years, they are certainly not too old to race.
Let's wait and see what their excuses for the missed tests are.
If I understand, Kimutai and Kisorio were suspended for failure to appear for testing but haven't competed for over two years. So why did someone show up to test them? How long does it need to be after your name stops showing up before they stop sending people to test you?

They’re not competing man. I don’t know what to tell you. You’re acting like in 2021 athletes couldn’t race, when they clearly could and did if they were inclined to. There’s not much coincidence to be had, the guys stopped running races for a living and didn’t see fit to the paperwork.
You know what would make less sense, spending money/resources to dope like crazy all to not race for 28 months and get popped for avoiding tests. You might as well take the tests…maybe you get lucky or the drugs have cleared the system. Only a fool or someone for the difference of 2 years vs 4 matters (not the 2 washed older athletes) would go with the test-dodge strategy.

This is an absolutely astoinishing comment.
If you don't think THREE Kenyans suspended in one day is not worthy of even posting about, then I don't know what to say. Presumably, given the time of day, all these doping apologists downvoting this post and upvoting comments like yours, are American. Really does leave me suspecting that American distance running might have a doping problem almost as bad as Kenya's.
Just letting you know I am down voting you from down under.
Just out of interest, are all the doping apologists downvoting me, downvoting the Christopher Kelsall Athletics Illustrated article as well?
Isn't it about time that this supposedly 'anti-doping' forum is a viper's nest of hardcore doping apologists, completely apart from the rest of the online athletics community?
Let's not forget that Matthew Kisorio was busted for doping in 2012, admitted his guilt, and also claimed that there was systematic doping in Kenya which was enabled by the athletics authorities there.
Not that more than one or two people on this forum would care.

2021 was still difficult for Kenyan runners to get to international races. Just as likely (esp. given that one of them was a convicted doper already) is that they were back training/doping in winter 2021/2, and tried to evade the testers who had returned after lockdowns.
If I understand, Kimutai and Kisorio were suspended for failure to appear for testing but haven't competed for over two years. So why did someone show up to test them? How long does it need to be after your name stops showing up before they stop sending people to test you?
Another question is why did it take until this year for them to miss three tests, if according to Canova and the rest, they all retired in 2019? Obviously lockdowns may have been a factor, but presumably they were occasionally tested and showed up in 2020 and 2021?
Either way, it's a poor look for Kenya. Either they were tested in 2020/21, in which case, it's not plausible that they all suddenly decided to retire in 2022 when races were back to normal, and all three forgot to tell the authorities. Or they were not tested in 2020 and 2021, despite all being in the testing pool.

I thought it was a pretty sloppy piece of journalism. Just like you it ignores that we’re dealing with just one athlete of three who still competes and the bans are for whereabouts violations not the presence of PEDs/ABP violations. I am anti-doping, but retired has-been or never-was Kenyans and c-tier whereabouts busts don’t do it for me.
This site really does need to be investigated by WADA or the likes of ARD. You have a admitted doper on the mod team, posts simply linking to an article on 3 Kenyans suspended in one day getting massively downvoted, and now my comments getting deleted for no reason. Now delete this you gutless cowards, just don't do it with the arm you just injected EPO into.

You’re looking at a small sample size, Coevett. To avoid these bans remember all you need is fewer than 3 missed tests in a 12-month span. These tests were done by Kenyan anti-doping not the AIU. It’s very possible and understandable that there was less testing done in the first year of the pandemic. That’s not to say no testing but if these guys passed a test in February and their next test didn’t happen until Fall of 2020 you could see how the clock on their whereabouts failures could move to 2021-22. Certainly nobody would fault AK for targeting athletes who were actually competing over inactive ones when logistics were challenging.

Well the Gachaga decision is already published. He said nothing about missed test 1, his representative said he forget to update Gachaga's whereabouts for missed test 2, and Gachaga himself said that he forgot to update his whereabouts for missed test 3.
Plus, he ran 2:05 in Paris in October 2021, 11 days after his 2nd missed test.
Again, let's wait for Kisorio's stories before clearing or condemning him.
But note that athletes get a couple of notifications for each missed test. One would think that sooner or later they'd formalize their retirement after missed test 1 or 2, especially someone like Kisorio.

You make these suppositions without any proof. Kenya had 45 guys run 61:00 or faster in the half last year. That was only slightly down from 2019. There were actually more sub-2:08 Kenyans than in 2019. By the fall it was pretty much business as usual, so Renato who actually has knowledge of these two athletes is more credible than you. You I’m sure understand that paying money for PEDs, doping, not competing and then dodging tests enough to get banned is a completely ridiculous idea.

I have no idea on Gachaga, he is the most suspicious/relevant of the 3 because he was actually competing and making money and he clearly has an agent. I think we can all agree that once he had 2 missed tests and was 6 days away from getting that number to 1, the evade test strategy/put in the wrong info idea is non-sensical when he could just not dope until December 19 and then miss a test without consequence. This isn’t rocket science.
Yes, that 3rd missed test was a stupid mistake either way.
Would be hilarious if he dodged test 2 (and test 1, where his wife lied...) because he was glowing, and then stopped paying attention to his whereabouts with just 6 days to go until the expiry of missed test 1.
