🎼🎵 Burn baby burn 🎶 My friends and I would pretend disco sucks but we really liked it. A few years later I would meet the Orangeman sitting at a table all by himself in Studio 54. He was such a loser even then.
It was a fad in music. Like any other musical fad, most of it sucked, but some still resonates to this day. The Bee Gees were actually pretty good.
in general, the people who liked it had lousy musical taste and got into it because they were told to. The same people listen to hip hop today, which sucks more than disco ever did.
Agree with this 100%, so I can't understand why hip hop has not faded away by now. Disco was popular for ten years or so, tops, where hip hop has been around for a lot longer than that, and sadly shows no signs of going away.
My personal belief is that people are hesitant to come right out and say that hip hop is not good music, since you will be accused of being a racist if you do so.
Hip hop is still around because the left owns media and they love pushing this type of stuff. Especially rap. The stupider the better. Its the dumbing down of society.
Rap was old 30 years ago with parents listening to the garbage, and now its just got dumber and dumber. I sometimes don't mind it as it immediately outs an idiot. Saves me time.

Oh...yea, I was a 1980's Disco dancer. Graduated from college in 82 & went right into the work force full-time - weekends were for disco dancing & picking up girls at the clubs.
I wore the tight slacks, silk shirts, high-heel shoes & even had a John Travolta haircut like he wore in Saturday Night Fever. And man could I disco dance back then - it was like a work out at times!
My favorite was "Disco Duck." 🦆 I drive my son crazy when I show him those dance moves we did back then. 🤣
Recorded back in the late 80s on a TV airing, here's 2 extremely rare deleted scenes that did not make the DVD extras. The first is a funny dance sequence to...
The mid-late 1970s were a depressing time. You had the hangover of the retreat from VietNam. The Nixon/Watergate scandal. Gas price shocks. High interest rates, unemployment, inflation.
Disco was a bright, joyful spark in an otherwise dreary few years.
Baloney. The late 70s saw the birth of Star Wars, punk rock, and the personal computer.
Can you imagine what it was like not to have a computer at your disposal? You could have maybe a calculator, powered by a 9V cell not this rechargeable stuff.

You could say that about any popular music. Radio & Media has pushed all sorts of stupid songs.
Why specifically is rap drawing your ire?
I listen to all sorts of music these days. Country, Rap, Rock, Metal, Pop, etc.
Rap is just rhyming over a beat. It tells a story.
Rock, Country, Pop, R&B, is just singing over music. It tells a story.
Rap tickles him in such a way that it's amusing to see him struggle to articulate a reason other than it being race related. I'm not fond of country music or rap but I don't have a personal vandetta about either genre, it's white people and black people music generally and that's okay. No need to get angry about it.
As I walked through that hospital door I was sewn up like a coat I got a smile from the bite of the wind Watched the fresh fall of snow
I knew then that my life took a turn I felt strong and secure And with adhesive tape over my nose I felt almost demure
Goodbye Sister Disco With your flashing trash lamps Goodbye Sister Disco And to your clubs and your tramps
Goodbye Sister Disco My dancing's left you behind Goodbye, now you're solo Black plastic; deaf, dumb and blind
Bye, goodbye Sister Disco, now I go I go where the music the music fits my soul And I, I will never let go, I'll never let go 'Til the echo of the street fight has dissolved
I will choose nightmares and cold stormy seas I will take over your grief and disease I'll stay beside you and comfort your soul When you are lonely and broken and old
Now I walk with a man in my face Ooh, a woman in my hair I've got you all lookin' out though my eyes My feet are a prayer
Goodbye Sister Disco With your flashing trash lamps Goodbye Sister Disco And to your clubs and your tramps
Goodbye Sister Disco My dancing's left you behind Goodbye, now you're solo Black plastic; deaf, dumb and blind
Popularity of disco is dancing. Put it on for your toddler and dance with it, it's a good time. One could argue the music is second rate, but it makes for a fun hustle.
It was big when I was in high school (I hated it, liked Zappa). It wasn't for listening, it was for people to dance to. From my perspective it seemed to be more of a white middle and upper class phenomenon. It was very plastic and irritating.
I hated disco back then. I graduated from HS in 1979 so I lived though that era. Most of the girls, though, were into it so you had to at least fake liking it sometimes. I was one of those guys with those "Disco Sucks" tshirts, LOL.
I was born in '74 so I didn't experience disco directly, but I know that the Rolling Stones song "Miss you" was some sort of disco influenced song and it's one of my favorites of all time. Also, maybe Abba isn't exactly disco but there are a couple of good tunes to be found there. The dancing, well I don't like any dancing so that's a wash for me.

People do say rap isn’t good music. People say country sucks. People hate rock. Disco didn’t go away it just evolved.
That said. Disco sucks! Lol look up Disco Demolition Night at Comiskey Park. Best promotion in sporting event history.

I agree with you, Alan. It's great that life treats us to a diverse selection of musical genres. It's up to each individual to choose her likes (and dislikes). The same could be said for almost any other aspect of life, from food to sports. Different strokes for different folks.
Like other musical genres there's some worthwhile disco and some not so much. For some personal reasons I particularly like Chic. For those who dismiss all of disco just think about all the horrible rock or pop that's played. Yeah, the best of those genres are really good but it's not hard to point out lots of bad stuff.
You have to look at disco in context of the times, and the music that was before it. From the last 60's through the entire 70's music was very heavy on messages and being "meaningful". All those singer songwriter types, the political stuff, even the hard rock was "serious" music.
Disco was light, it was meaningless, the lyrics hardly mattered at all. It matched up perfectly with the move away from blue jeans and tshirts hippies to suits (leisure suits!) blow dried hair and a stress on looking good. The cocaine helped to fuel all that.
