Disgusting OP.
Disgusting OP.
Going to be hard to disrupt the entire model of professional running with Atalanta running, when she is taking on a whole new sport

Also you're talking about someone who is pretty much hands-down the best high school athlete ever
Just look at the record book she has every middle distance and distance record by a long shot except for the 5K
Let me know the next time a seventeen-year-old girl comes close to running a 4:24 MIle. There's a good chance it won't happen for the rest of this century
And her 235 1K isn't too far off the American record also ran at 17
I’m sure there are lots of 17 year old East Africans who could and will run quicker for the mile this century
We will find out quickly if she can swim fast enough to make the main group in a draft legal race. If you don’t make that group your race is over.
Interestingly she joined the Paulo group of LRC fame. Paulo knows where to find her.
No doubt she has the engine. It will probably take some time to develop the skills needed to compete at the highest level in triathlon, see, e.g., Alan Webb.
I imagine she may relocate out of NYC? That has to be a fairly undesirable place to train for triathlon.
After reading the article, I wonder if you did.
I'm glad to see the huge amount of negative votes for the OP. The vote system is really helping the messageboard. The whole tone of the OP's post was fake news. Cain never said she easily could have been a D1 swimmer. We have changed the title of the thread and added this disclaimer to the first post.
LRC Note: What the OP wrote is factually incorrect. He or she wrote that Cain said she "easily" could have been a D1 swimmer when Cain actually said she "probably" could have been D1: “I could have probably gone D1 as a swimmer,” she said of her potential in the pool. “By seventh grade, it was becoming apparent that I’d be a better runner.”
We have changed the title of the thread so that it is now factually correct. It was initially entitled "Mary Cain Becomes a Pro Triathlete, Claims She Could Easy Have Been a D1 Swimmer"
This thread is an example of why the pros don't post here...or at least post under their own names (with a couple of exceptions).
In the past, it has been too easy for anonymous posters to bash pro athletes with a variety of inaccurate comments and/or personal attacks.
Let's make this behavior unacceptable. Thanks to those who gave the original post a thumbs down.
Is her running career really over? I still can't get over how good she was at one point. She is still very young. Talent can't go away this fast.
I raced at Clermont a long time ago. Lake Louisa is red to tea-colored water from tannic acid. This makes swimming a bit disconcerting. There are a surprising number of hills Mary C. will have to contend with. Draft legal means her bike strength will be tested to keep her from getting dropped. Should be interesting.
Seems she lives rent free in your head.
can we send Gwen back to the tri and Cain back to running?
Mary Cain ever get any heat as a possible doper? At least one of her parents is a doctor and could have gotten prescriptions for EPO and other things. Her regression after high school seems very suspect, even for a female athlete.

Oh, give it a break. Mary Cain put herself into a Triathlete article all about her being a pro triathlete when she hasn't even learned how to properly ride a bike. It reeks of a lack of humility and attention seeking. You know it's a terrible article as well as I do.

She can start a new business around Tris called "Ffphenix".

But can she ride a bicycle?
No joke. We’ve all learned the hard way. The technical skills required to ride a time trial bike are immense. Egan Bernal was roughed up pretty good on a training ride recently. She’ll likely make up for it on the run though.
