Looking at the splits on the USATF site and it says she ran 28.8 for the last lap. She looked unbelievable. Monson looked like a hobby jogger behind her and she is very good.
Anyone else think Elle might be better at 3k than 1500?
She's dang good at both, but the 3K is probably her best event. She is very strong for a 1500m runner, but not that speedy (can barely break 2 in the 800). Best of both worlds for the 3K where she has 14:30 type strength and 4:16 mile strength.
Real Vermonters aren’t liberals. It’s the out of staters (like Bernie himself) who have corrupted Vermont politics unfortunately.
Completely agree. But sadly, the real Vermonters are getting few and far between because the New Yorkers, as evidenced by Bernie have slowly taken over. Of course it's not so slow any more.
I think I'd go with her 3k is the event where she is the furthest ahead compared to the average US trials finalist, but not necessarily the event she is the best at compared to the entire world. There aren't much more than 10 women who could front run a 3:58,, but say she's even an 8:25 3000m woman I think there would be more than 10 globally who could beat that mark. Regardless, she's competitive 800 through 5000.
World indoors will be very interesting. We'll see who ETH sends, but looks to me that the chief protagonists in a medal fight would be Seyaum, Taye, Stafford, and Purrier. Seyaum has looked dominant in both her races so far and her 8:23 with a 31s last lap is very impressive. She's shown she can close a 4:04 in 29 while also having big time aerobic strength. Taye has done a 14:14 5000 but has less of a kick. To me the most interesting event on the women's side.
Purrier's performance in 3000m is normal for her. In the 1500m, coach Coogan wanted to have 2 runners qualify again. and instructed Purrier to slow the race down so Maclean could use her strong kick to get 2nd. Purrier's normal time for 1500m is sub-4, this race was 4.06s. The race plan went awry when Norris's last surge caught Purrier by surprise, before she could react (differential of 0.01s). Both Purrier and Maclean knew that the race plan had gone terribly awry, which was why both were somber after the race.
I think she had to know that, with the field, her only real threat was Purrier St Pierre, and PSP would win a kick. She ground out Kelati twice (?) already this year, and had to know there was a good chance she could do it again, ensuring her place on the team.
She didn't show up for 1500m Olympic final. She's one of the best in U.S. but not world class.
She injured himself in USAs and barely ran between then and the Olympics. Considering she smoked GDS in May then ran even better to win USAs it's not exactly a stretch to say that the injury really cost her a shot at the top 5. You're being a troll if you think she's a 4:01 runner at her best.
Purriers "normal" time is not sub 4. I think she's broken it twice. And where did you get info that Coogan told her to slow race down? Skeptical about that.
Hmmm. Seems more likely McLean and PSP came up with the plan to both get to worlds on their own. When Elle was looking around in the last few strides it was probably to see if McLean was there and if they could get 1-2.
But anyway ... I agree that depending who shows up, Elle might have a better chance in the 3000 than the 1500.
"Monson looked like a hobby jogger behind her and she is very good. " I'm offended. JK Anyway I think it's safe to say Purrier has a temper. But channels her emotions into a positive through racing. We'll see her best come out if someone pushes her during World Championships.

Wait....how did she injure himself?
Purrier stumbled during the Olympic trials race, which resulted in injury to her foot.
There is rampant use of peptides and SARMs going on in the sport at the moment IMO. Can’t really test for them, many aren’t officially on the banned list, most still have considerable performance benefits. I think a lot more people than you think are operating in the so-called “Salazar gray area”

What went wrong was that Purrier started looking around with 5 meters left in the race. THAT is why Purrier isn't going to Worlds.
If Purrier had run though the line and not made a rookie mistake, she wouldn't have finished 3rd.
i was so mad i yelled at the teevee. "what the hell are you looking for? race!"
