I’m happy for him. He’s clearly been underperforming for a long time and is finally on track. Acknowledges that his time still isn’t really respectable for a pro but says he’s set up well for 800-Mile and hopes to break 7:50 next year indoors which I believe he can do.
I'm happy for him that he ran his goal too, but even if we go a year out from now and he runs 7:49, that's just not good enough for a pro. That's not good enough to get to Nationals in college right now.
You seem to be forgetting that the guy ran 3:39 for 1500m and that he ran 49 with a standing start in high school.

I'm happy for him. I have always thought that 3-5k could be good for him. He ran a decent 8k.
This is accurate. I think he will likely run some decent PR's off this training but I highly doubt they will be PR's that are substantial enough to garner a contract. That is my assumption of what he is after - which, as others I think have implied, it's kind of nuts to me to be running what, just 55-65 minutes a day and not have a regular job the rest of the day. Seems like he could/should run a lot more and try to move up in distance after this training block.
I don't know, I just didn't find the AS's performance the other day that impressive. Glad he's finding his wheels again, though. Just wish his attitude wasn't so middleschool-y.
There’s a difference between running for fun and making it your full time job. Also it had to be awkward with the Beasts there and how much they all clearly can’t stand him.
You're getting downvoted to crap, but this is an unfortunate truth. Not that many pro runners enjoy having a camera in their faces all the time.
Watching him run 150's on that training trip last year - dude's got enough speed for the 1500. Don't think he has the endurance/mindset to be competitive at the 5K. Easier to be subelite at 800/1500 because of more opportunities/easier to stay in races.
Glad ot see that he seems to have turned his career around but that leads to a question.
What is his end game? Hoping to get a contract? Think we can all agree that will never happen or at least enough that he can make a living from it. Does he have a job that pays at all? Does he really make any money from his YouTube channel and even if he does how long will that pay.
There are many former college runners who have full time jobs and still can run meets like this today. But it is getting to the point where he has to admit it to himself he will never make a US meet or Fly Trials. And even if he was so squeak into a nationals what does that get him?
He's talked about his end game before (maybe in a video or a podcast I forget). He knows he's probably not getting another "full" pro contract, but he loves the sports and wants to compete while he is young.
I agree with you though, the money situation is weird. From my understanding he does not have a job and is focusing full time on his training. Quite a luxury for someone his age post college and someone, somewhere, is financially helping him out (he makes around $100 per video on average).
I think Spencer knows that making a world/Olympic team is pretty out of scope, but Spencer is also the type of guy to think, "hey if I can just make it to the trials, all it takes is 3 good races to make a team". Will that actually happen, no of course not, but I do kinda admire his 'ignorance in bliss" mindset.

His family is loaded. He is from one of the wealthiest zip codes in the country.

There’s no way he’s only making $100 per video. He averages 20-25k views per video. I follow a YouTuber who averages similar views on his videos (however he does post daily) and he had an estimated annual revenue of $91,000.
with that being said, I don’t know how the frequency of videos posted impacts that or the general in’s and outs of monetizing YouTube videos works but from what I can gather from the YouTuber I mentioned above, it’s fair to assume that TAS makes atleast $500 per video so he’s definitely making good money

This. Do you see the houses the dude runs by when he's home training (not knocking his family for success either) but I don't think money is an issue for him.
I worked in social media for a bit and his channel and views probably make him, at most, $15 to $25k a year.
Dang so y’all really didn’t like my hobbit comment huh? I agree it was a little savage, but look at the bigger picture here. Why is it these forums obsess over either really slow people like Evert and Special Athlete or really fast people like Cole Hocker. What about everyone in between?

Be the change you wanna see, make threads about the guys inbetween 7:39 and 7:58
Not sure what gave you the impression that they don’t like him, I think they got on pretty well with him, particularly Dave. And in his video he was cheering them on pretty enthusiastically, so can’t have been too awkward

Might be hard for you to realize this but 49 in the 400 is not fast. He's only run 1:49 in the 800, which is not fast. His 800 and 1500 bests are from 2019.
He should be training as a 10k runner. Him trying to be a 1500m guy tells me he is lazy and mentally weak. He's not willing to put in the work.
