14 to 3: upvotes agree with you. Which begs the question, why aren't there more quarter tights? They aren't any more revealing that half tights, and they don't reveal more leg than split shorts. What does the extra 1/4 coverage on the lower half of half tights give anyone? Warmth isn't needed because that's what full tights are for.

Half tights allow for a well placed piece of elastic just above the knee. On most runners, 1/4 tights would ride up and become 1/8 tights because of quad shape.
A well placed piece of elastic works fine on my shorter bike shorts. Even if they become 1/8 tights, they don't show any more leg than split shorts, and prevent the potential BYU balls-hanging-out issue with split shorts. Max King here in 1/8 shorts, looks fine:
those are basically half tights. Some men have stronger legs and half tights ride up. I understand that most emancipated runners don’t have quads large enough to do that
