She wasn't just an advocate for opening schools for kids. She was anti-mask and often drifted into anti-vaxxer territory. She made gobs of money as a EVP of global markets for Levi's (see her 3.8 mil Denver home that she bought while keeping her San Fran home). Her claim of a woke mob at Levi's is utter BS. No publicly traded company in the world would elevate someone who is taking very public and controversial political positions that could negatively affect the company. You don't get a compensation package of $10 mi+ to be a CEO of a publicly traded company and get to keep your controversial advocacy. That is pure capitalism and has nothing to do with a woke mob.
Once again, someone expressing an opinion that does not agree with you or the mainstream media is "controversial advocacy", "controversial political position". And of course there is something wrong with her "making gobs of money" and owning 2 homes!!!!! Sey's elevation within Levi's had more to do with her hard work and brilliance since it took place before Covid.
Does it bother you as much that Nancy Pelosi and Bernie Sanders have gotten rich as politicians? How many homes do they own?
While we're at it, how do you feel about the cancelling of Abraham Lincoln, Dr, Seuss and making Mr. Potato Head gender neutral?
Board of directors and C-suite executives have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders to always act in the best interest of the corporation. That means making profits. That obligation is tempered by the business judgment rule that allows corporate leadership to exercise business judgment when deciding whether to go after market share versus profit margins, etc. But the business judgment rule does not allow corporate leadership to take actions that will harm the corporations profitability in the name of proving a political point or to adhere to some higher principle.
You may think that Sey is spot on and that CNN and MSNBC are full if sh#t. But a publicly traded company has an obligation to their shareholders to sell blue jeans to everyone and not just people who watch FoxNews and OAN. Promoting someone who is a lightning rod in the debates over COVID public health measures to CEO is a clear risk to the business enterprise's profits. That is why Sey was told to either can it with the COVID advocacy or don't expect to become CEO.
And this is why most of what people claim is "woke-ism" run amok is really just a function of capitalism. Joe Rogan got in trouble not because Spotify cares about public health and vaccines. He got in trouble because Spotify did not want to lose subscribers over all the COVID deniers he kept having on his show.
You need to look no further than Levi's business practices outside of the Sey controversy to see that the company is only concerned about profits. Levi's is generally a terrible company when it comes to labor and environmental practices. Manufacturing denim is highly water intensive. It takes about 7,000 liters of water to make one pair of jeans. Companies like MUD Jeans have used recycled denim and water recycling in manufacturing to reduce water consumption to under 500 liters per pair of denim jeans. Levi's introduced a "sustainable" line of denim, but will not release numbers on water usage. And Levi's still makes jeans the old fashioned way. Further, Levi's has suppliers in Mexico who have been caught polluting water with waste products from jeans manufacturing. On the labor side, Levi's has had loads of trouble with sweat shop conditions in its suppliers in China and recent allegations of pay cuts and forced overtime in Ethiopian suppliers during the pandemic.
Sure, Levi's has all sorts of PR about sustainability and labor practices. But that is just marketing. In reality, they are only concerned with profits.
Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Thought, Freedom of Contrary Opinions is unpopular amongst Commies, Marxists, Liberals, Big Tech, Big Pharma, Big Corp, Big Media, and nimrods.
Proper capitalization is unpopular amongst nimrods, so I am told.

Straw man. Nobody is suggesting that Levis is ideologically opposed to Sey. In fact, she pointed out that the opposite was true: The people at the company who asked her to shut up also told her that she was right. Buta heckler's veto isn't benign just because the people who ultimately enforce it are doing so for non-ideological reasons. If we were talking about a business that discriminated against minorities, you wouldn't say it's okay as long as the business is doing so with an eye towards its bottom line, rather than out of truly bigoted convictions.
