Wow. I thought the up vote/down vote totals were supposed to only internal. I thought we were going to use them for us to find nuggets of wisdom we didn't see (Or see problematic threads/posts).
But I do know we don't plan on only showing you the popular posts so I don't think it will change too much.
Wow, I thought you were involved in the whole redesign process.
I take it back, this is not even 2010 design level. This is maybe 2005.

Some sites allow sorting of posts by most popular (highest scores) and least popular (lowest scores). That way you can both posting nuggets and posting fool's gold.
I would like to point out that my original post has now received 22 downvotes and is now hidden from being viewed in the thread, probably because of how many downvotes it received. There have been about three to five people that have legitimately engaged me in discussion about my original post. The silent mass of downvoters that exists outside of the discussion is what turns every upvote/downvote forum into an echo chamber. I encourage the Brojos to think about how the incentive system of posting on letsrun.com changes in an environment like that from what it has previously been for the previous 20 years

HINT: There is a link to the right "Show Post". Your post is still there.
I do agree that the upvote echo chamber on reddit is problematic since posts are automatically sorted by best, which limits the actual access people have to less popular opinions and creates a positive feedback where only the most popular opinions are seen. However the old letsrun was equally if not more problematic because the views of a few loud posters were disproportionately represented. I'm hoping this system will strike a middle ground, where it conveys the overall opinion of the board without becoming an echo chamber.
I think that not having a sort by best will help avoid "karma farming" as well because it will avoid the aforementioned positive feedback.
Do the votes just indicate like or dislike? but they don't seem to effect the position of the post. so, even if 50 people dislike it, it still stays right on page one of the thread?
pretty sure the various cultures of letsrun will find ways to twist whatever version of upvote downvote the overlords put in place, so that it doesnt really do what the designers hoped it would.

Already, I'm seeing a strong trend toward down-voting. A lot of grumpy old men here.
the downvote feature is going to save letsrun - everyone browses this site but mostly only complete psychopaths post. now we can start to see that the community as a whole actually does not agree with so much of the insane garbage posted
Those 32 downvotes already confirm everything OP wrote, no need to read it all. Post voting creates a peanut gallery for whoever wants to smear a post without risking any kind of reply, even anonymously. I think the vast majority of those "votes" came from this type of coward. This doesn't create a better forum; in a good forum, readers are encouraged to have the majority to move on from posts they dislike, not encouraged to engage and judge everything they see. The latter is a genuine societal ill caused by modern social media. Most people who do it fail to realize the mental problems it causes them.

This isn't a boxing match. No one is a coward for not posting that they think your post is bad. Now they can just tell you. Don't let your feelings get too hurt.

100% agree, and I refuse to upvote you on principle.

dude, you're an internet troll. Of COURSE you don't want to be told over and over again with little arrows that you are an annoying internet troll. Maybe if you saw the irritation your trolling brings to the world you will, you know, troll less.
You seem to think that your trolling obligates us to reply to your trolls, while using a simple downvote makes us a 'coward,' That's absurd. It takes no courage to reply to an internet troll. Wigins, you troll because you WANT people to respond, but by god thinking down of people who don't feed the troll is absurd thinking.
I'm assuming most people don't like trolling. Maybe I'm wrong there.

At this moment your OP is net -37, and it looks totally normal on my end, whether I'm logged in or not, on mobile or laptop.
