Adidas isn’t on Nikki’s twitter bio anymore.
Singular "they" has been part of English since Chaucer

Apart from the women’s sport thing, l say live and let live.
BUT, I can not get on board with the they/them absurdity. It’s an abomination of the English language and is unacceptable.
Which year would you say we should freeze English and consider any deviation in usage and grammar to be incorrect?

That's not what non-binary means. You actually just described gender binary people.
No this is literally how Nikki describes it. She says some days she wakes up feeling like a 'dude' and other days like a 'queen'.

Still confused why they chose to leave gold coast TC after they had a great year. Been downhill ever since.
Quite a few runners left Golden Coast TC in the past year, so there may be something else going on.
Also, I've talked to Nikki Hiltz on a number of occasions. Sometimes she is reasonably friendly, and other times she is cold and snarky. Doesn't seem like the easiest person to get along with. That may have had something to do with Hiltz no longer being with Golden Coast TC and Hiltz not getting re-signed by Adidas.
I wonder which of them is "cold and snarky;" which is "reasonably friendly"?
That is not singular. They refers to everybody, not one body.

Not true. Tyler Hamilton and his twin lived in the same body, causing Tyler to appear blood doped because of his twin's different blood proteins. Or so he said.
She is useless to them. They got all of the pride exposure out of her. They will probably sign another woke before the next summer games.

Singular they has been around forever, and I would bet good money you use it regularly without even realizing it. Read the article I linked above.
It makes sense that Nikki was dropped from Adidas given their poor showing at the trials in what should be their prime. Also, they took most of 2020 off to focus on mental health, but for a sponsor to let you do that there's got to be some pay out at the end of the day. They ran miserably at the trials and again at club cross.
Now for some wokery. Personally I think every stupid troll comment that purposefully misgenders them should be deleted. Its one thing to be confused and ask questions about what it means to be non binary, and it's another to be a useless bully. You know that it's insulting to people who are trans/non binary to be misgendered. It's even offensive to cis people! The amount of cis guys on here who freak out when you call them "girl" and "sis" is comical. So stop.
On the other hand.
Nikki came out less than a year ago. And they changed their pronouns to they/them less than a year ago too. And I say "changed" for a reason. They had "she/her" listed in their profile up until less than a year ago, and then switched over to "she/they". Finally they decided that they/them was the best of the lot, and made a change. Good for them.
Except....it invited the twitter police to start calling out everyone who accidentally misgendered Nikki as a slime ball. Kara Goucher had to profusely apologize. Another announcer, Paul Swangard, who did it by accident was rudely called out. Nikki themself says that it feels painful. But it's strange to think that something could affect a person that deeply when it's clearly done on accident and they only changed their pronouns a few months ago!
I'm happy that Nikki decided to come out but there should be more grace since people are going to slip up. It also brings us to another issue being non binary but conveniently running in women's races. That's not to say Nikki shouldn't be there, but it definitely does not help the trans women in sports argument. I want to be supportive and inclusive of all people, but bending the rules so that one group can essentially compete in whatever category they want doesn't help either.
Non-binary is a term socially constructed by gender theorists and activists. It's superfluous, vague and meant to be confusing. Nobody is completely "binary" with regard to gender expression. We all have a combination of traditional masculine and feminine characteristics. There have always been quite masculine females(tom boys) and feminine males. Just because you don't fit cleanly into what is viewed as the "gender binary" doesn't mean you get your own special pronouns. So ridiculous. Hiltz is a masculine lesbian female. Big deal. Im not using weird pronouns to describe that.

Stop. No one cared that kara or paul misgendered nikki. Because 3 trolls on Twitter pretended to be mad doesn't mean sh!+. No one watches track. Stop making up stories.

My favorite Nikki story was when they talked about wanting to join junior lifeguards back in the day (probably the early 2000s) and felt they couldn't because it meant they had to wear a swim suit. So the next year they asked if they could wear shorts and everyone said yes and no one batted an eye.
It was very inspiring.

WRONG. They don't wake up and choose one or the other. They use they/them pronouns because they don't feel that they belong to either of the two basic genders. They may feel more masculine or more feminine on any given day but they stick to they/them pronouns either way.
if you think just because something is an accident means it can't hurt somebody then you may just lack basic empathy

Nikki said it wasn't a big deal what Kara said and an honest mistake.
I fail to understand why it would be rude to use "it." since "it" is singular. and does not have a gender. It seems more neutral of a term than "they".
