I biked professionally many years ago and also ran competitively, so I have many years to have compared both. If you are biking hard, and I mean a hard, sustained effort, you will get very close to the same benefit as a run. Easy biking, you can go forever and the calories burned will be a lot less than running. Go by heart rate, if you are working super hard, and your heart rate is high for a sustained time, you are burning a comparable amount of calories. Now, the problem here is that it is awful hard, mentally and physically to go this hard every day on the bike.
