For almost 2 years ..since early March, i was wearing some sort of mask anywhere I went if I would be speaking or dealing with someone.

22 months later..no freaking covid.

No flu.

No cold.

And I work with kids

Absolutely the masks work..and they have worked.

I dare anyone to have a BETTER narrative, because at this rate i am liable to punch any irresponsible adult who coughs and won't mask up.

And anyone who tells me to live with covid, bring it...nobody in any branch of my family has gotten covid.

I have known many people who felt the same as you. Most got infected eventually. One has been dealing with the after effects of a collapsed lung (mid 50s) and one is dead (late 40s). If your parents are as old as I am guessing, they are complete idiots and you should feel ashamed for supporting their dumb behavior. Learn how to read. The data from the UKHSA is very insightful.

By now there is nothing that will convince the idiots that the masks work. The fact that surgeons and nurses have used them for a century has no bearing on the way these freedom fighters think. In a car by yourself or walking around outside, they are pointless. Indoors, near people, very effective.

2300 died yesterday and we are averaging more than 2k for the last few weeks. Still killing a lot nationally.

Omicron will spread all over. Masks may delay the inevitable for a short while but everyone will be exposed. If you do not have 4 plus co morbidities or are over 70 then there is no real concern with this variant. Catch it and move on. This ain’t delta!

Hate to say it, but as a physician, the article is poor at best and realistically worthless. Without knowing methodology, the numbers mean really nothing. There is little of value in the way of quality research on the value of masks. Surgical masks were never designed to prevent viral spread but principally reduce bacteria-containing droplets from entering surgical wounds. There is no doubt that N-95 masks works. That is what they are designed for. But just try and spend a day in an N-95, unpleasant doesn't begin to describe it.... KN-95s are not quite as good but helpful if sealed around the mouth. Beyond that, most physicians have never felt masks provided much help due to airflow mechanics. The few barely decent studies out there suggest a benefit of perhaps a few percent while wearing a non-sealed mask, questionably showing statistical significance. Some people do get a sense of protection wearing one and there is no evidence that there is physical harm wearing one, despite the fearmongering on both sides.

I started wearing N-95s a month ago because of Omicron. they're fine and I've worn it for 8 hours or more. They're actually more breathable than surgical masks, because they fit properly.
