What are you guys doing for winter interval sessions this year when it snows?

They lock these places down these days. I normally would do this but like I said due to "covid fears" all of my spots do not allow non students.

Yes, you can run a anywhere and anytime. So, just make it work, you can run 4:10 pace on a road, why the heck not? You can run 10 x 30 sec, 10 x 45 sec or whatever as fast as needed. Running is the one sport where you can get it done without teammates, without facilities, without lights, just run baby.

I have noticed runners these days are too fixated on exact times and distances and perfect conditions with super shoes etc.. It is really sad. Strap on a pair.......

Stones throw from BU! Your talking my language now. Have you looked into working out with maybe GBTC? Last I checked they used Reggie 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday nights after the high school meets. I am not sure that is still happening. But again if you can't get indoors I would used short hill repeats for faster stuff in the winter. If any of the paths or loops around the ponds or river is clear doing them on that. Just got to work with what you got. I assume after this storm the Boston tracks are now covered in snow.

A few ideas:

1. Hide a shovel at your local outdoor track to shovel a lane off in event of snow;

2. Run at night after rush hour on wide roades with good lighting

One problem I have in winter is roads narrow due to snow and plowing

Running during day hard due to traffics hence night time with roads

3. MIT used to have indoor access

4. Look into new balance track indoor that is opening see if public allowed.

The worst is the ice and packed snow both slippery and everything gets narrower due to plowing sidewalks roads etc

I can’t run with yak tracks

And putting screws in bottom of shoes trashes apt floors

Hahaha, good luck with the New balance track, no way they let the public in there. That will be exclusive for sure. And, it is a multi use facility, Davis is a big fan of Lax, they are going to roll turf over the track and play Lax on it often.

Equipment designed for clearing snow off of field turf. Generally not involving shovels and not shovels being used on a track by a bunch of amateurs. There's a big difference.

I have coached very good indoor track runners in one of the snowiest parts of the nation. you may have to be flexible within a handful of days, but you should be able to find clean, dry roads or parking lots a couple times per week to get 200s and 400s in. 800s and up can be done on a mill if need be.

watch the weather and plan your workouts around best conditions.

i didn't see that you were in boston. might be tougher to find a low traffic road to run 400s with confidence.

bottom line, you need to figure out something that can work for you. pull up a satellite map of the area and search like hell for something you can make work. I have run and coaches several very fast road interval workouts, but you do need a space where you will feel safe.

If it's a lot of snow, learn cross country skiing. I know people who have attained that ability as adults.

Keep sucking all that smog in.

Hold your abdomen muscles (and your whole body for that matter) as tight as you can after taking the deepest breath you can. Now - blow a kazoo with all your might for various lengths of time. Start with 20x1 with two minutes rest. Mix it up with long and short intervals and reduce the rest as you progress until you can blow the kazoo for your desired 5k time all at once. Thank me later.
