Is that your problem? You are a "sub elite" or affiliated with one and you are afraid they are going to change some time standard because of one race?
The people who deny CIM is aided and claim it as their PR is a farce.
Maybe not throwing them out after one marathon but definitely using them for local 5ks and halfs and getting a new pair for their next 'A' race

Even throwing in the tried and true hobby jogger label to make himself feel like something.

Agree with you on the last part of the course.
The calculator says low 2:59 on a perfectly flat course is worth 3:00:00 at CIM.

So here is a guy whose ex-gf probably ran 2:44 at CIM and probably left him for a guy who ran 2:18 at CIM

You think CIM is bad try Steamtown. Regardless, you run the course that exists and running downhill tears you up.
It is my PR course. Weather was perfect and I was in decent shape (for me). I only ran Boston after that and came within 90 seconds of my CIM time.
I wish I would have run Chicago after CIM, I think that was faster, but I wasn’t in top form when I ran it.

One other thing to consider is will CIM always have some vector of wind at your face the first 26.1 miles.
It would be nice if there was a flat course in Sacramento as the weather there is so consistently perfect. Chicago is a faster course and record legal but weather is not predictable and also a good part of the country it is too hot/humid to train for Chicago from may-sept.
