Poor Greg, all he has, is to look back to an to short of an 8k race 19 years ago.
What have you done in the last 19 years?

Most runners don't ever meet their true potential. I always thought I could run much faster than my PRs, but I never did. Too bad! That's why running is great. There's no need for wild speculation. There are no woulda, coulda, shouldas. You ran what you ran.
Your mom and I are proud of you Greggy!
You keep bringing up the 'thon and your potential. Why don't you just run one this spring?

That would be ugly.
Can you imagine Greg finishing in 4:17 ?
He knows that this would be a realistic time for him. And he knows that is not good enough after his 2:45 talk.

I achieved my 8k PR on less than 60 miles/week and after ankle surgery 8 months prior. I was only 19.
In the 2 years prior to my 8k best I ran 0 miles at least half the time due to injury.
I had talent to run much faster than my PRs indicate.
Who knows how good I could have become?
What have you done in the last 10 years? Kipchoge is your current age and won another gold medal this year.
Greg,
How did you celebrate your birthday? Remember 37 is just a number, your best years are ahead of you.
December One is on Wednesday, it's time to start putting together some more consistent weeks of training before the New Year rolls around. We on LRC expect Great Things from you in 2022.

I don't think Greg's mom is proud of him. Is she, Greg?
How’s that 250 bench press coming along? You were supposed to be able to do it on your birthday. That would give us an insight on how good you could have been because having a bit of talent is not all it takes to be good.

So thanks again Greg, for your 17 years of couch sitting. .
The world is very competitive. When someone tells me I sat on the couch for 17 years it's an indication to me that my PRs (which are not even that great in the grand scheme of things) REALLY cause that person to become insecure.
This is true in your case.
El Guerrouj is a WR holder and Olympic gold medalist. He's sat on the couch since he retired 17 years ago.
But I don't blame him for it. He's achieved something better than I have.
It's ok to be less successful than someone. Maybe take that advice from me.
Yeah... if Coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind.

I coached myself to my 8k PR

You still bringing up stuff from months ago? You're worse than senile Unkle and Steve The asylum man.

You are not seriously comparing a retired WR holder and Gold medalist with your 17 year of couch sitting?
