At 18 Kipchoge ran 12:52 to beat El G and Bekele at the WC. At 19 Jacob went 3:31 and 13:02.

So we should change the rules in case someone didn’t run in high school? There is nothing about being 18-19 that keeps someone from being at or close to lifetime peak. Kids are playing soccer full time by 5th grade. Yet we freak out on this board if a 7-8th grader is running 40 miles a week.

Exactly, if during their two years off they were able to train intensely, that would be one thing. However, as we all know, they do little to no training, get out of shape and gain a bunch of weight.
These constant threads about BYUs advantages due to age are annoying and old.

Not saying it’s anything horrible. I would just be embarrassed to win a collegiate race at 24. I graduated college a month after turning 22. I would have had to have been a 7th year senior to be 24 during XC.
Winning is not something you’ll ever need to worry about.
Just so you know Athanas Kioko, the man Mantz out kicked, is 26 yet we aren't hearing a thing about that. Henry Rono won his first title when he was 25... and went on to win many more at an even older age. None of these people are breaking any rule and BYU is far from the only team with people over the normal age. Get over it

Yes, but not by much. I started running later in life for fitness, and never progressed much past the 17s for 5k.
