Are you kidding? Because that is pretty funny.

He couldnt run 147 and 208 at hte same time. Those were years apart. When youre young you can run fast, when youre old you have huge miles on your body and you can run long. I promise you he couldnt have run 147 the year he ran 208 even if he trained for the 800.

Typical of Letsrun, repeating a fallacy over and over until you actually believe it. I've asked Hermans myself, he says "no".
Hilarious. You're among vaunted company--only another 96% of Letsrun.com can claim to have secret elite sources. Considering Hermens delivered the information to Hutchings, either you are lying or Hutchings is lying.
I going with Hutchings on this one.
As an aside, with 3:31.76 1500m speed indoors (56.47 per 400), exactly what does your logic--however short in supply--lead you to believe he would instead run for 800? 1:50? Grow a brain, then use it.

Non-Africans have run 1:41 and 3:28.9; they have also run sub 2:06:30. But for every non-African who has broken 13, there are 12 times as many African runners who have done the same thing.
Dixon is a white guy. No white guy has run under 2:06:30. Mainly it is africans.
2.08 for marathon is the 13:10 range. 2.06 is when you're getting in the 12:50 range.
Something like:
2.06 = @ 12:50
2.08 = @ 13:10
2.10 = @ 13:30
2.12 = @ 13:50
2.14 = @ 14:10
2.16 = @ 14:30 (hello Paul Radcliffe)
2.18 = @ 14:50
2.20 = @ 15:10
From 2.06 to 2.10 it's harder to run the 5k time.
From 2.12 up, it's harder to run the marathon time. Has to do with efficiency of the fastest 5k runners versus the sheer distance of the marathon.
Frank Fredericks 9.86
Francis Obikwelu 9.86
Seun Ogunkoya 9.92a
Davidson Ezinwa 9.94
Olapade Adeniken 9.95a
Deji Aliu 9.95
Uchenna Emedolu 9.97
Daniel Effiong 9.98
Leonard Myles-Mills 9.98
Aziz Zakari 9.99
10 of the Top 50 performers All-time are from Africa only 52 people have run under 10 for the 100m.
In the 5000, 51 runners have gone sub-13.
24 Kenyans
12 Ethiopians
9 Moroccan's
1 Algerian
1 Ugandan
1 Saudi
and then Baumann, Mottram, and Kennedy.
Also the way runners ran the marathon was different back then. They didn't have rabbits pacing them. The goal was simply...hold your breath now...WIN. It's been said before on this board that many marathons "back in the day" went out FAST and whoever hung on won. Pacing and rabbiting is what makes today's marathoners fast, that and more quality racing opportunities.

Non-african does not mean "white".

semetic people, are indo-european....just keep that in mind.
but isn't 'semetic' a linguistic distinguishment, such as 'arabic'?
...that is, im sure correct.
But, im not intireily sure....arabic people are semetic...isreali is semetic..
but i realy dont think isrealis are arabic?.....could be wrong..
anyway...they all spent some time north of the black sea...before showing up(if you will), in the middle east and later africa
Arabic is part of the Semetic Language Family, so all Arabics are Semetics, but of course the reverse is not true (and of course, Semite has come to more or less mean Jewish in our language).
The Semitic languages are a family of languages spoken by more than 250 million people across much of the Middle East, where they originated, and North and East Africa. They constitute the northeastern subfamily of the Afro-Asiatic languages, and the only family of this group spoken in Asia.
The most widely spoken Semitic language today is Arabic by far, followed by Amharic, Hebrew, and Tigrinya. Semitic languages were among the earliest to attain a written form, with Akkadian writing beginning in the middle of the third millennium BC. The term "Semitic" for these languages, after Shem son of Noah, is etymologically a misnomer in some ways (see Semitic), but is nonetheless standard.
Nobody passed him too it. He was a wait and kicker so he didn't rn that fast because he never had to.
I mean "paced" him to it
anywa...differance between "White", and "black"....is not clear cut...in fact ethiopeans have indo-european blood as well.
I know -- Ethiopians have (I believe) one of the most genetically varied populations recorded (excepting of course countries like the US where everybody is new).
But again, that's why I wrote "African" and "non-African".
well really africans ARE the most GENETICLY diverse...assumeing the mtDNA eve theroy...which so far as i can tell...is the most feasible theroy as of right now.
dont read to much into this...
ah...here...is a qoute from ...
an article on human genetics
Annual Review of Genomics and Human Genetics
Vol. 6: 165-183 (Volume publication date September 2005)
"One important finding of mtDNA analyses is the corroboration of the "Recent African Origin" hypothesis of modern human origins, initially put forward on the basis of fossil evidence (19, 154). Studies of mtDNA variation in worldwide populations have repeatedly found further evidence for this hypothesis, with the most recent common ancestor of human mtDNA located in Africa about 100,000200,000 years ago (24, 66, 88, 170). Moreover, direct analyses of mtDNA from fossils of Neandertals and their contemporaries, early modern humans from Europe, indicate no contribution of Neandertal mtDNA to modern humans (25, 7981, 106, 130, 137)."
Of course that might mean that only Neandertal males were interbreeding if it was happening at all.
so are we saying Alan Webb should also run 12:50?
I could see 13:01 but never 12:50 from Rod, he was a beast never the less. Think too the NY-City Mth course is at least 60-120 seconds slower then some of these very flat, fast courses that are being run today by speeder guys.
