Allowing older athletes is unfair, no question about it. There should be a hard age cap, no exceptions. No one 25 or older would be more than fair, allowing for two extra years in case of injury or illness.

Arturo Barrios broke the 10000 meter WR in 1989 (27:08) and Yobes Ondieki broke it in 1993 (26:58), becoming the 1st to break 27. Barrios also broke the 1hr and 20k track records in 1991. These records lasted until 2007 when Geb broke them.
poor Larry Heidebrecht was way ahead of his time as a coach. paying older African runners got him fired, nowadays he'd be Coach of the Year.
Ed Eyestone, ninth place in that race, will be coach of the year for NIL'ing older mormons, as usual. He does a great job but no one should be allowed to have 7th and 8th year collegians and 25+ year olds scoring for college teams against 18-22 year olds especially. I've got an idea: the older men could run in the "Open" category outside the NCAA!

Why no mention of all the Finns at Oral Roberts U?
Good god, how many Reina's went thru U. Arkansas?
I'm on a tangent but the 50th place finisher, Brian Ferrari, was the D2 champ that year from California University in Pennsylvania, not from Cal-Poly.
Interesting tangent- I seem to remember some "rule" where the DII and DIII Champs could run in the DI race which used to be on a Monday sometime around Thanksgiving.
Sometimes I really miss the old days.

Patrick Sang, Kipchoge's coach, has the best lifetime best in the steeple of anyone who ran in the NCAAs.
To the Reina's question: Ruben Sr. was my dad's friend and teammate in HS.

BYU runners average age is 31 wrote:
What UTEP did before the slush fund scandal, was use African athletes that were in their late 20s and 30s. This is addressed in the article.
If what UTEP did then is no longer allowed, how is BYU getting away with it now?
BYU is following the rules. Its simple. As has been repeated ad nauseum, every single school in the country could do the exact same thing BYU is doing. Why don't they do it? Because it's a disadvantage.
