They ran Matt Gunn and Adam Perkins, a miler. And there were issues with the other runners that pretty much sealed their fate before they ever arrived.

regardless of what you say, forrest and perkins should have run better. this year forrest can\'t falter again.

mcD beats kiplagat at pre-nats > kiplagat destroys ark runners @ iona > olinger behind mcd @ pre-nats by 43 seconds > olinger behind bairu yesterday by 70 seconds
bairu will not be beat this year...neither will wisconsin
you could use woods of michigan for a comparison or some of the indiana guys, at any rate, i don't think anyone in the ncaa is within 10 seconds of bairu, especially when you stretch the course out to 10k...

How about defending national CC champion Bairu, defending indoor track 3K champion Solinksy and the top finisher at open mens worlds CC 12K 19 year old Withrow? Plus Eagon who was a second behind Withrow at Big 10s?

right on, mac cant help it when ahmend comes to him and says "coach i can run 10k and help the team" and then dnf, or when forrest fried himself runnig track all summer...granted in 2002 i would say they choked on a big one, cragg 1 and lincoln 14 (or about) and they still got what 5th?
Sorry for my ignorance, but can somebody please give me, in ranking order, Arkansas' top 7 guys? As they are, right now, whether healthy or not, over a 10k, etc... is it Boit, Forrest, Kosgei, Cormier, Summerside, ???
rodrigues was an all american last year and will definitely be in their top 5.... look for barnicle to come back strong too

Have you ever been on the nats course? To fill you in, its on a slope, with many small revine/water ways running through it. Even if Indiana is like a desert this November, there will still be areas that are soft and wet. This course will never be hard and fast. But on the other hand, it never gets too nasty.

Yes I have been at the course over a dozen times. I am guessing you were not at pre-nats because the course was very fast. It could be even harder and faster than at pre-nats because it will get colder at night and the ground will freeze. If it rains a day or two beforehand it will obviously slow the course down, but that may or may not happen.
I coached Josh McDougal's mother in college and can tell you, he is for real. he is continuing to develop in leaps and bounds. His mom was a talented distance runner and with her husband, have provided sound guidance and coaching in Josh's development.
Knowledgeable hometown coach Scott Woodward provided sound advice as well. Josh's college coach, Brant Tolsma, is doing an excellent job with him. Josh's 23:13 is far and away the best 8k time going into nationals, although it is tough to compare different courses' times.
At Nationals, I'll be pulling for Josh. If he has a good race as he did when he ran 23:13 and blew away an excellent field (that didn't have Arkansas), he could be right up there with Vincent Rono, Tony Okello, Jacob Korir & Josphat Boit. If Josh runs his own race and dictates the pace, they will pay a price to hang with him. These guys are human and have a healthy respect for him as a fellow competitor, as does he for them.
If these races were decided ahead of time, nobody would want to run them. As Seb Coe said "If I knew what I were going to run tomorrow [for a race time], it would take the mystery out of it."
