I train on a 525 m track. It’s Fantastic and makes for much easier time trials, at least from a mental perspective.

It is weird and gimmicky, particularly for the Diamond League finals. Hope this is the last we see of it.

Jakob and Barega have dropped out. Congrats Zurich, you played yourself
strange that the best runners in the world don't want to run on a gimmicky 3 lane track with a ridiculously banked hairpin turn.
The IAAF wanted to get rid of the 5000 so they turned it into a f*cking parkrun. Only event where Ovett was faster than Coe, so he’s getting rid of it.

Legit lol

It's just one 5000 meter race on that weird track around that plaza. I am sure it will not count for anything.
Servus, except it counts for one thing - The Diamond league 5000m prize....

Coe has no official time for 5000. If he and Ovett raced one in their primes, I would consider it to be 50/50.

Coe had this 14:06 effort at the 1980 Yorkshire Championships

I would hope that someone with 1:41/3:29/3:47 speed would be able to comfortably run a 14 minute 5000m. It is an exceptional time for someone in D3 NCAA competition. Not for a former world record holder in the mile.

+1
I haven't checked the current rulebook and facilities manual but a few years ago a time run on a 500+ meter track probably couldn't even be certified, let alone run as a record.
Their construction standard was very strict, down to the kind of metal used for the measuring tape and what temperature it can be, the acceptable geometry, etc.

Same. I didn't think it worked well. Only down side of the meet today. The benefit was to Niyonsaba because the camera angles and tight turns made it less obvious that she was toying with the field.
If they are going to do something like this it should be an outdoor setting with a normal 400 meter track that is easily viewed from the stands and street spectators alike. That would be very easy to accomplish if the Diamond League final were held in the same city every year. But since it moves around there isn't the incentive, financial or otherwise.

This wins the LR board.
This track was a total joke. Tight banked turns. Looked like a meter of vert per lap. Waves in parts. A big banner 30 meters after the finish that all of he runners thought was the finish.
What a disaster.
I really like the idea, but the execution was pretty horrific.
A lot of purists here. Who cares if they run a race on a nonstandard track once in awhile. So it's not record eligible. BFD.

That can't possibly be true and unless the stadium is an open horseshoe shape, it wouldn't even be possible. I also believe the runners would skip the race if it was true.
Is you mind still blown? Hard to believe what a moron you are
That track looked so jacked up, like if Dollar Tree made tracks.
Zurich, don't do that again. Ever.
