Yes the newly crowned Olympic champ has no chance of winning the next Olympics. That makes total sense. In the next 3 years it is certain his body will suddenly become far too old to be competitive, nevermind the fact he won by 80 seconds.
Sure.
+1
What a dumb post. OMG, he destroyed the rest of the field yesterday. His abilities are not going to suddenly disappear, and he seems to have the motivation. I expect another major win or three from him, and a definite attempt at another Olympics. He might not win, but the idea that he will be unable to make his team or contend is ridiculous. You are talking about the greatest marathoner of all time, and based on yesterday, still not far from his prime and still far ahead of his competitors.
Agreed.
Abdi, the Bronze medalist from (Belgium?) said that Kipchoge is very strong and that that is why no one went with him when he broke off.
If any of the three guys had decided to go with him, they'd have had a disastrous day. Cherono was already spent and didn't have even half his usual sprint to claim a medal.
Kipchoge would definitely get a medal at 40 in my opinion. Depending on so many factors, I think he'd even win.
When asked about retirement, he was non committal. May be he wants to ponder on his future away from the pressure of all the glare and events of the day.
