As for all of you talking about hs. It’s a mixed relay. Different event. You want to hand over as late as possible so the woman doesn’t run as far as the man. Obviously but still in the zone. You obviously want the fastest runners running the furthest and the slowest the least

The exchange zones are the same. It’s just like if you had a stronger 1st leg in a single gender relay. Yes you may want to stretch that first leg longer, but you don’t get to have your first leg run 430m.

Wow this is officially the DUMBEST thing I've ever seen. USA had a guaranteed gold medal and she blew it. She cost herself and her teammates an Olympic Gold Medal.
I thought your runners have college degrees. How do they achieve those?

Anyone running in the Olympics has not been on the end of being setup to run short before, unless it's a girl who has done mixed before.
Supposedly protesting and claiming the officials lined her up there.
Just saw on Twitter that the US is going to appeal being placed in the wrong exchange area.

That should be denied. There is only ONE exchange zone at the start/finish line, the one for the 4x400. There is no 4x200 relay markings on that track. I could understand if they were placed in a 4x200 zone but it is not marked on this track. They were not in ANY zone.

Of course they appeal, they have nothing to lose by doing it. It won't help anything, though.
It looked like heat 2 had a lot of runners moving to a different mark for that handoff, did the officials not know where they should be and she didn’t want to move? That picture looks like different lines she’s likely used to triangles clearly marking the zone and was probably nervous to begin with

this has nothing to do with that. she was not lined up to go short. she was several meters in front of where she should have been. instincts alone should have let her know where to lineup based on her competitors.
but again, i realize these athletes are used to having their hands held, and this is not being accommodated in Tokyo
it has certainly been the case that officials have escorted runners to the wrong line on the track. not sure if there are enough cameras in there to prove if this might have been the case

We don't know that. She was clearly not by her competitors which if the goal was for her to run short would make sense. The fact that she actually lined up on a line, makes it seem like she just went to the wrong spot. But she may have been coached that "It's going to seem like you are the only one in your spot". But if she was really trying to run short she shouldn't have been standing on any line and just like 8 meters ahead of the actual start of the zone.
OR she was actually instructed wrong by officials.
take it easy on her. she is victim. be aware of her mental health. That was heroic to line up in that spot. Takes courage
