My point still stands. If her head wasn't in it, and if therefore she wasn't going to be in the top 3 scores of the team competition, plus if she was going to risk injuring herself, why continue?

Far better to step out of the team competition, try to regroup, and hopefully do well in the upcoming individual competitions(s).

In the meantime, the US did well enough to earn silver in the team competition. Well done.

I think also there was extra pressure on her to deliver routines with a high degree of technical difficulty in order to secure a team victory and she felt she couldn't do it on the day. I understand her position.

I agree that if you are the GOAT you don’t pull out of your final Olympics.

Biles nevertheless deserves praise for exercising her sense of self preservation.

Too many gymnasts have been permanently disabled from attempting difficult and dangerous maneuvers when not at their best.

Her actions do send a great message to young gymnasts!

Jordan Chiles received an 11.700 on floor.

Even a fairly mediocre (for Simone) 14.000 on floor would have yielded a score that counted plus 2.300 toward the total.

You just said her dropping out is like Tom Brady quitting while losing, which is a huge negative. Now you say she can’t impact the score negatively because of the scoring. So what is it? Negative or not negative?

Also you’re wrong about Tom Brady there are plenty of times when scores get out of hand and they are losing where the backup finishes the game. Nobody bats an eye.

The rules are different this year than in previous years. Roller coaster you might want to check that out before making a claim implying that you know how the scoring works.

This year in team finals only 3 athletes compete per team per apparatus and all 3 scores count.

I listened to her press conference. I couldn’t understand what she was saying.

“Felt like it would be better to take a backseat. Work on my mindfulness and I knew that the girls would do an absolutely great job and I did not want to risk the team a medal for my screw up because they worked too hard…”

If she knew that she was not there mentally, could she not let the alternate compete instead of her

If it was too late, could she not at least try. They drop the low score anyway.

She tried..one vault.

Had she defaulted it would have been a team DQ.

If she's injured, she's not being honest.

If she's not , she could have struggled and helped.

Had she been injured enough from the start, she should have bowed out for Jordan at the start.

Biles and Chiles was already a thing for the team.

Grace too. She could have been prepared.

Being the GOAT means never giving up because it gets hard. It means still coming out of the locker room when you are 3-0 down in the finals, getting back on the bike after getting 100 stitches because a motorbike shot you through a barbed wire fence, or running at the enemy even though it means certain death to save a fellow soldier.

Being mentally weak or quitting because of mental issues is not what makes a GOAT. A donkey maybe, a jackass definitely, but not a GOAT.

Nice that you support an abusive coach making a young athlete compete on an injured leg. I realize theres plenty of bitter sadistic asshats here who have failed miserably in life and therefore seek out to tear down others who have achieved success far beyond anything they will ever know but coming down on the side of pushing an athlete to perform when that athlete KNOWS they are not ok, in a sport where there is an endless potential for severe injury including paralysis or worse, is evil in my book. Strug never should have vaulted on a sprained ankle. And Biles should not feel that she HAS to perform dangerous routines that require enormous concentration when she doesnt feel she can hold it together mentally just because we all demand that she carry the team all by herself to the top of the podium yet again. That should be obvious to everyone. Even the miserable nobodies on this sewer of a site.

So the message here is "know your limits" and "put your health first" and I cant think of a better message to send to young girls because the message "success is more important than your health and well being" has been harming girls for generations. Especially in gymnastics...

By the way, how come all the haters are calling her spoiled and not caring about the team but instead of sulking or running off and hiding at a time that must have been incredibly humbling and embarrassing for her, she instead sucked it up, put on her sweats, came right back onto the floor and stayed right there with the team cheering them on louder than anyone else? she even was delivering chalk to the other athletes like some anonymous gym assistant. the greatest gymnast on the planet... running down chalk for her teammates... THATS leadership... THATS someone who has the guts to face her team and the world after not doing what everyone expected of her, including herself. Thats pride.
