Joe Klecker Full Olympic 10,000m Buildup

Incredible for him to share this with the running community in this kind of format.

This kind of transparency is going to inspire some kids, some where in America to start putting in this kind of work by mirroring this schedule and we'll have a Big 3/Class of 2001 again in 2-3 years.

Ritz looks to be heavily influenced by his time with Hudson. The faster stuff does appear to be from his time with Salazar. I wonder if this combination, while in paper seems like the best of both worlds, is skipping a step in full development.

Eh it seems pretty solid to me.

One big change in his pre and post Ritz training are the sustained efforts and sections in long runs. I think that has probably helped him as much as anything. Adding the shorter stuff certainly got his kick right for that Oly Trials.

can anyone share what are the benefits/objectives/idea behind cutdown workouts? would love to know!

In a race, you want to cut down on your pace as you get ready for your kick and eventual kick. Starting a workout super fast and dying hard at the end is never a good feeling too. So if you get into the grove and work down each rep, you get more out of it mentally and physically

Oh I see. I do agree with this. I think his ceiling is quite high. I think he’ll be under 27 and 13 before then next Olympic. I’m serious

Yeah.

Long tempos, or long intervals take care of the rest of the training. I don't see any of that here.

He has a lot of longer intervals earlier in the season, and throughout a lot of mile threshold sessions and 3-4 mile tempos after races or in the middle of a workout

also does a fair number of his easy runs clipping off sub 6 + did a bunch of pre-Olympics buildup in winter clothes in hot weather to acclimate to the heat. his strava's a good place.
