It’s just hard for me to imagine Barega or Kejelcha beating Cheptegei if he is in top form. Maybe Barega.
Kiplimo on the other hand should probably be favored over Cheptegei at this point.

High temperature and humidity is not good for those on EPO so could be a slower race than many think.

Will Ugandan Stephen Kissa be the pacer for Cheptegei and Kiplimo in Tokyo. Mande sacrificed his race and set a fast pace from the start at Doha for Cheptegei.
Kissa is Cheptegei’s training partner and he looks up to Cheptegei. Kissa ran 27:26 on June 8th, 2021.
Africans are willing to sacrifice their race so that a runner from their country can win.
If Kissa is the unofficial pacer this will really help Cheptegei and Kiplimo.
I think Kiplimo wins the 5000 and 10000. Also Interesting is can the Canadian Ahmed Get Rupp's 26:44 Area/North American Record?

I definitely think Ahmed can run 26:44 or below, but it won’t happen in an Olympic final.
Went back and looked at last 3 laps of mo, bekele and haile, cheptegei ... its very interesting the consistantly run 180 seconds.
I will come back and list them all but its consistantly something like 64 61 55. The key is that third to last lap.. if its down to 61, 62 i think jacob will win it. Because he has the strength but not the explosive change of pace. Selemon would be better suited to go on all out 500... ala gebrseassie in 1997.
or hope for a 66 in the third to last lap and get to a 300 meter dust up. He cannot sustain the full 400 all out sprint. But watch out for aregawi..
The ethiopians in this race will not work together.. they dont get along... dont see eye to eye
