Haas and Houlihan aren’t even keeping tabs on Scullion. Horrendous operation. Basically a scheme taking advantage of inexperienced people all around.
I’m starting to think even if Scullion changes his mind again about Tokyo he should not be allowed to run due to mental health. Physical injuries keep you off teams. Ireland or the IOC should step in and sit him out and get him help.

I've never heard of someone voluntarily not going to the Olympics. I really hope he gets help ASAP. This sounds quite serious. Professionals need to be involved NOW. I mean even if you weren't in great shape, you'd normally just go so you could say you were an Olympian.
He does have a history of making rash decisions. This article says he briefly retired last summer and then later in the year her ran 2:09.

Incorrect. She is Haas’ assistant. Haas calls the shots.
Haas is one of the nicest guys in the sport.
Out of the goodness of his heart, he coaches this group of absolute dreamers. Without Haas, they’re out of the sport.
Groups like Zap Fitness, District track club, Dark Sky, Mahon’s San Diego group, Firman Elite, Mammoth, Empire State, and the like operate on shoestring budgets compared to Coogan’s NB, Boss, Bowerman, NOP, OTC and new On group. Honestly, just as good coaching, but 2% of the resources.
I am curious. Were they at least getting paid significant amount by UA?
It has to be something else. Given his age, this was it. Physical injury is one thing but mental time out? It's not like there was any expectation for him to finish at the top. He would be a middle of the packer at best.
Aren't Dark Sky a seasonal training group, aka they're a landing spot for scattered athletes looking for a common group to train with in Flagstaff during the winter and spring?
I never saw them as a full time group the way BTC and others are. It's more like a training camp.
Not sure UA was “paying” them as it is a group of multi-brand athletes.

There were some previous articles that touched on his earlier struggles and they may have resurfaced. He is not letting anybody down and I for one still support him 100%.
He deserves his privacy, and I hope he gets help and he is right to prioritize this before everything else, as mental health issues will outpace you every time.

🦁 Scull! This lad has an incredible streak of work. He's been in camps at 180lbs and came out 10weeks later @25lbs down and running 2:17. He's been able to build off this absorbing 130+/weeks. You would think throughout this an Achilles or major injury comes about his talent is being able to absorb this grind.
His 20' London just outside top ten running 2:09 in harsh conditions says he's a racer which bodes well for Sapporo. Just last week he had a great YT video/collab putting together incredible weeks/sessions. All the best to Stephen...
