In high school I trained in trainers for everything. When I ran 10x400 or 12x400 I'd do a 200 meter jog (about 60 seconds of jogging) and would average about my 3200 meter racing speed. So maybe you're in 10:35 3200 meter shape?
Probably not. I think I can go sub 11 in the 3200 now, but it won't be by much (10:55?)

Pile up some 400s in 72-73 w 200m walk in the trainers.
Time trial a 600 ~1:45 in racing flats in 3-4 days.

After hearing about my "training", one of my former teammates bet me $100 that I wouldn't be able to run a sub 5 1600 at an all-comers meet next Friday. Should I take the bet? The most recent workout I did was last Friday, which was a 10x400 averaging 78.2". Yeah, that's slower than 75" pace, but I was wearing bulky trainers (Nike Invincibles) and did the whole thing solo.
I ran one lap every 3 minutes, which comes out to an average recovery time of 1:42. Do you think I have a half-decent chance of pulling this off? FWIW, I ran a mid-67 400 three days ago in those Invincibles (equivalent of a 64" in spikes in a race?) so I might have the speed for it, even though I've barely done any speedwork since April.

It's been many months, but I hope you didn't take the bet back then. I pretty much did the exact same workout (10x400, one lap every 3 minutes) wore the same trainers, and averaged a 74.9" on 35 MPW, which is double your mileage:

Nope, didn't take the bet or run a sub 5 1600 or mile.
For curiosity's sake, I threw on some spikes and time-trialed a 1200 the second week of June. I don't remember my exact time now, but I do know that it was a bit slower than 5 minute pace. Maybe somewhere in the range of 3:46-3:48.
My legs were pretty much dead on the last 200, so keeping up that speed for another lap would have been out of the question. The guys guessing 5:10-5:12 would have been right.
Glad I didn't lose $100.
