hmm how much time do you have before the half? If you've got a couple weeks before the race, try to drop some longer tempo efforts that are at the "correct" 1:25 pace, and see how you feel. I personally race shorter stuff for now so I go 10k in a longer tempo and HMs for up-tempo long runs, and in my experience, mid 37s and 1:25s feel relatively similar effort-wise, so even if you don't have time I say go for it. After all, if you crash and burn because of your lowish mileage for someone going as quick as you, well, next training block you can go higher mileage, run 1:25 and not crash and burn, and feel all the better for it.

The race is in 2 and a half weeks. I did 2x5km @ HMP today and it felt quite difficult towards the end tbh. It was a warm morning though and I still feel like I'm carrying fatigue from the 10k race last Sunday, as I was able to run much faster than this and continuously during the race.

Oh well, I'll just give it a crack and see what happens, as you said, there's always next training block if I miss my target.

Congratz! That's a really good result off less than 1 year of running.

Btw, what workouts (and pace) did you do leading up to the race may I ask? I figure I'm in similar shape and I've been logging similar mileage for the past 3 months, but kinda unsure of that.

Mostly the typical kind of stuff, i.e ~5k tempos @ ~6:15 or 2x5k tempos at HM race pace, 14-17 mile long runs with 3-5 mile sections of HM race pace (+ long runs up to 20 miles with no faster paced stuff).

Also sprinkled in some speed work like 5x1k at 5:30s with 3 min rest or 8x800s @ 5:50 w/ 2 min rest.

Those were most of the workouts I did in the 5 weeks leading up to race day, also did the 10k race 3 weeks prior.

5x1k at 5:30 would be impossible for me. 5k x 2 even at CURRENT HM PB pace (1:24 low) would be very tough as well. Guess I need to toughen it up and train harder.
