You are seriously comparing what a 30 year old 800/1500 athlete has done vs what Mu as a 19 year old 400/800 athlete did in running her first semi serious 1500, with the 62 s close? Noone is saying she is world class now, but the potential is clearly there.

4:16 for a 400/800 athlete at Athing's level at most just says her conditioning is good. It is kind of like sub-10 100m sprinter running an early season 47x quarter.

Those splits suggest even pacing would be 4:09.7. Also, she was in the lead at each split (300, 700, 1100), so is there a little more time to be gained from drafting (although if she had inside position for the whole race, that maybe cancels out benefit from drafting)?

And she won by 1.8 sec, so she possibly could have run faster if pushed harder.

But the point is- the race is worth a lot more than 4:16. (Due to pacing). I’m not saying to be impressed or surprised, or not. But fact is, she’s probably a 4:09-4:10 1500 runner now.

No. I don’t think that she progressed by more than 4 seconds in the 400m 8n the last 15 months. I’m sure that she progressed, but not by 4.3 seconds.

Katelyn Tuohy ran 4:16 and the 1500 seems to be one of her main events. Kaley Richards ran 4:16 and she was 4th in the NCAA mile indoors. Mu definitely has potential and does not deserve hate

Nobody in the world has more potential in the 800 right now. She is capable of a great 1500, too, obviously. But who really cares how fast her 1500 is.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. Idk if it’s cuz you think women and men have the same 400-1500 trajectory or just don’t understand strength-based runners vs speed-based or what. If you run 1:59/3:59 you are doing that 800 on almost all strength. You aren’t casually running a 53-second 400 just because you think it’s slow cuz high school boys do it.

4:16 is weak sauce and will likely be her all time PB. Tuohy ran 4:14 TWO years ago!!

Tuohy is coming back from injury and ran 4:14 as a high school sophomore. Still 4:16 shows very goo mile potential.

Very impressive for someone who's best distance is 600m. I didn't think she had that kind of strength.

I concur. I was only2:04 I the 800m but I had no speed and never ran it smart if I did 2:01 or 2:02 would have been my PR. I ran4:08 in the1500m. 4:16 should be easy for her... distance work
