This is pretty interesting stuff. There are certainly a lot of shufflers as a percentage of race finishers but I think even among just competitive hobby joggers most of those athletes likely increase stride length significantly more than cadence. For me personally my cadence increases from 170(give or take 2-3 steps) to at the most 190 but my stride length during races goes up massively close to 50% longer over 10k, granted I probably do easy runs slower than people at my level.
I agree, fairly interesting, but it also needs to take in account foot strike etc. I am clearly a stride runner, with my cadence just increasing by 6% between my long run shuffle and 5k race pace while my stride length increases by 25%.
I compared it also for different shoe models, and it's a common pattern, regardless of Vaporfly, Endorphin Pro or Adios Pro (although I prefer the Adios Pro by far).
I ordered a Metaspeed Sky with a reasonable discount, but I am a bit concerned regarding the low drop, as I usually prefer a higher drop. The Metaspeed Edge has a higher drop, but according to Asics it's not the shoe for me, let's see.
Curious in looking at my data what kind of a runner I am:
1) 5k TT w/ an average mile pace of 5:04 and an average cadence of 176
2) 10m tempo w/ an average mile pace of 5:58 and an average cadence of 171
3) Normal aerobic/recovery days pace ranges from 7:30 - 8:30 and cadence seems to typically be around 170.
Does this mean I am a "stride" runner?

Sounds like you're a "stride" runner to me. If you use a Garmin watch, then Garmin Connect shows stride length data too. So you can work out percentage increase for both factors (easy day Vs 5k race pace). Given the small increase in cadence, I'd imagine your stride length increases significantly
Running a given pace at a lower cadence means landing harder. g = -9.8 m/s^2.
Maintaining a fast running pace has nothing to do with throwing yourself forward over and over again. You're already moving forward, and you'll keep moving forward as long as nothing slows you down. Footstrike at relative rest to the ground is what matters, and it's achieved before it touches.
