I haven't been able to run for two years now because of hip problems. I really miss it. I didn't realize I was making a fool of myself at the time, but I'd gladly make a fool of myself again if I could. The last 30 years I did all my running in the woods with other old fools. We enjoyed ourselves and occasionally did tempo runs, four miles at 8 minute pace. At one time we all ran under 6 minute pace for ten miles, so we'd obviously slowed quite a bit, but we liked pushing ourselves. And there were no award ceremonies when we finished. Just that glow of the effort and the feeling of blood pumping through our old deteriorating bodies. Like I said, I'd give anything to be able to make a fool of myself again. Enjoy it (running) while you can. There are few Ed Whitlocks around.

Well good for them. I have no intention of stopping them. Hobby jogging is good for older people. Just don’t take it too seriously.

See now I almost feel bad here. I feel bad that you injured yourself. I wish you hadn’t taken it too seriously. Maybe then you could still jog? I wish you well.

You're right. I probably did take it too seriously, but I think that was a big part of the fun. And it was fun. You can't beat running through the woods at dawn with a few, no more than two, good friends.

Like I said, enjoy it while you can. Your running days will end at some point. Hit the trails. Avoid the asphalt. I think that was the reason I was able to run until I was 73.

Why do you care what others do at all, how does anyone else running have any effect on you?

I think you are right. It does look pathetic to most people. When anyone runs seriously at any age, most people in the U.S. at least, think it's pathetic. I love running so I really could care less how it looks to others. I was laughed

at when I was 12, when I was 20, and ever since. I do it because it makes me happy.

I am not sure you would have been laughed at. I think most people do not care but I just think it is a young person’s endeavor. I bet many of you think Mike Tyson looks pathetic boxing in his 50s. I am glad it makes you happy to jog/run as it sounds as if you have it in perspective.

An observation: I think you may be running for the wrong reason. It seems your ego is too invested. I'm guessing you're a male. I can't imagine a female being obsessed with the sight of old people running. Seems like a male insecurity. Do you drive a big truck with a gun rack?

When I used to lift at the gym, a lot of old timers in there, you would never......don't take it too seriously gramps........you cheer them on.

Need to work on that cool, sweetheart.

Tell me why you ran yourself into the ground. Do you know why? Maybe you would do it all over again. But why do you think you did it? Were you compelled to do it? Part of the problem here is that the more some of you post the more my opening post is validated. Just pathetic at some level.
