I think Athing can do whatever she has motivation to do. In ANYTHING. Running should start in JOY build into goals, and end in JOY. When the fun abd discovery of the truth of running leaves--its time to pursue some other activity. I say poetry is the basis of human endeavor. The wholeness of connecting inner being with the reality of outer world. SO, youngsters should pursue those running activities at which they are natural. Baseline endurance, enhance strength for speed, train mind to be able to work the transmission, to shift gears. To seek the poem.
