Did the 2020 Virtual Boston count for runners with a streak?
Did the 2020 Virtual Boston count for runners with a streak?

With my precovid time and my new age group, I should be a lock ?. It pays to be old and fast.
Where are you seeing the charity runner hate on here?
Out of curiosity anyone have a rough list or count of races that could have counted as a qualifier between April 2020 and now?

Qualifying goes back to sept 15, 2018
There were lots of races between September 2019 and March 2020 with new qualifiers.
Exactly. Using the 2020 qualifying times, you can assume just over 30% of the 35 and over runners will age up gaining either 5 or 10 minutes. So if 30% of the minus 5 and under qualifiers move up they would be minus 6:39 or faster. That leaves 4,119 less than 5 minutes under their BQ time. 24127 minus 4119 suggests a minimum of 20,008 qualifiers wich a minus 5:00 or faster. Now the question is how many new people got a BQ since Sept 2019. There were fall marathons but very few sense then. Then how many will not feel safe or can no longer to avoid to travel? Will international runners be allowed to travel here?
Not loving my chances (3:08 under standard). But are international runners going to come for it? Will there be as much enthusiasm for people to fly in for it in the fall? Hopefully, enough people want to stay home and play it safe. Throw in that Chicago, New York and a bunch of other marathons are in close proximity.

Yes. And the 2021 virtual will also.
A number of streakers are older and may opt to do the virtual this year to be safe. Since it isn’t in April the whole tradition thing is already thrown out the window.

I have a -20:00 from February 2020 so I am clearly good for this fall. However, how far back do you think they will allow qualifying times for the April 2022 race? I think qualifying times usually run from September of two years prior. So for 2022, it should start with Sept 2020. With the lack of races in 2020, do you think my February 2020 time will also get me into the 2022 race?
I am wondering what the window will be for 2022 will be also.
Will Boston 2021 be in the qualifying window? Don't they usually start registration in September?
Bah, I am 6:40 under - fine any other year.
I guess we will see.
For those who don't get in...allow me to quote the great David Horton to the first runner(s) to finish the course over the time cutoff...of which I have been one
"Congrats on the finish. Next time run faster"
All I could do was look at him, smile, say "Yep. Can't argue with that" and just nod in my head.

I did, in a small race Feb '21 in NC. Not many will come out of this race, due to size and weather (37F, rain, wind and 6 inch puddles on course) but a few might.
I was -6:08. That's not likely to be enough, this year. However, since it will be less than 1 year from when registration opens for Boston 2022, I should be good for April '22, no?
-4:02 here.
I expect to be shut out. It will be interesting to see how 2022 is handled, though, with the backlog of us.
I started at 5-hours plus 20 years ago now, so what's another year or two?
Really nobody knows but I think you'll be fine for '22. They usually do September-September window for regular years. I can't see them decreasing the qualifying window so drastically it won't include your February race.

Meh, this is not a great take for these circumstances. When I BQ'd back in April 2019, I knew I needed roughly 4 under. After bombing the last 5k of my first marathon I decided to be smarter in my 2nd and avoid a blowup in the last few miles to get a safe BQ. Had I known at the time I needed 7-8 under, I probably had it in me to cut off a good chunk of time.
I've already gotten over the fact that I'm not going, but I still can't understand why BAA didn't give everyone who received entry into 2020 automatic deferrals to one of the next 3 or something similar.

The 2020 race happened. It’s over. If you want a freebie, sign up for the virtual.
Not to be downer, but 20,000? In October? How?

There's no reason it couldn't be the full 30k. I wonder if the reason it's 20k was so there's still high demand for spring 2022.
