Best miler out of Florida since Ryan Deak.

Tinman does do some harder stuff close to the race time. I doubt he is doing this every week.
He did the same exact workout in a video last week (except with 150s at the end instead of 400s), so this definitely isn't just a one-off race prep workout. Had splits all in the 4:20s in the pouring rain.
ddidididid wrote:Something like 5k-3k-3k with last lap fast is a hard workout but with decent rest is doable.
4:18 is not 5k pace unless he is running 13:24 this year. 4:07 is not 3k pace unless he is running sub 7:40. This workout was essentially 3x1600 with first two at GOAL 3k pace, and last one at FASTER than goal 3k pace. With 3x400 after at GOAL 800 pace. Thats insane, and I'd love to hear tinman talk about reinhardt's potential and current fitness level. Kid is clearly special and makes it look so silky smooth and easy.

Is this a veiled shot to say that reinhardt is going to burn out or become a head case? Deak isn't even a top 20 kid all time from florida.
In the video he says this is a race prep workout. He will be racing a mile this week.

He’s peaking in high school for sure.
And what if he does? Good for him.

He is supposedly trained by Tinman. Was in Arizona living and working out with Tinman Elite during their training camp. However, this workout doesn't seem like a Tinman type session. I don't think he ever prescribes long intervals that are THAT intense. 3x1600 at 3200 pace is near a peak / all out effort session. Let alone adding on 3x400 in 54 afterwards.
he is definitely a tinman guy. and if that is a tinman workout, than tom's philosophy has evolved in a major way.
How so?

Low 13:30s would be his goal pace for a 13:55 miler. That's 65s pace. As I said he ran a couple seconds fast. 3k pace is going to be About 63/4 so 3 of them and closing in 59 is 4:09. And I epext his 800m goal isn't 149 but more like 147. It seems a bit early in the season but I don't know his racing schedule. And of course 1 workout doesn't tell us much.

I have been around track and field for 30+ years now, and will offer that this kid is a future superstar. He has both the build as well as the stride. A workout like that as an American junior in high school, especially solo, is completely jaw dropping. I agree with the statement above that the first sub 3:50 HS mile gets more and more near.
And lukas verzbikas and german fernandez? There are no guarantees. Enjoy the ride. Best of luck to him.

Said Bartholomew? I assume this is in jest. If so, it didn't quite land for me.
That's a hero workout for any time of year. It seems like typical Florida in that because of weather, even in March, you choose evening after dark to run, and no lights on the track. Running without lights usually slows you down, so it's scary but I bet he'd have run faster if it were not pitch black. If the rest was 4-5 minutes (800 jog plus standing around, clearly), it's probably 3k pace or even shorter, but I agree that this absolutely indicates that he is going potentially get close to the national 2M record of 8:29 and blow right by 4:00, down to 3:55 or better. His stride makes the 54s seem much easier than you'd think after that quality workout. Think back to what Nico Young did last year, something like 1600-800-1600-800-1600-800? The last 1600 was 4:10. The 8s were around 2:04-2:07, if I remember correctly. Very impressive and he is not just the best Florida distance runner since Andres Arroyo (sub-1:50, sub-4:10, sub-9) but the best Florida distance runner ever.

Anyone know the recoveries?
800m jog between miles
Why are you making stuff up?? He is giving interviews to the camera between reps. He was not jogging recoveries.
That's what Rheinhardt said in the Youtube comments section.

Both of you are wrong. He writes in the comments, and I quote, “800 jog between the 400’s and about 1200m jog between mile”
So that’s around 6 minute jog rest for the miles right? Which is plenty. Maybe even more because he does some camera interviews also. Still a monster workout tho.
But it is probably 10 miles total.
This kid was breaking world records as a 10 year old.
Jesus, don't jinx the kid.

Sorry, but if you are going to state the recovery is x distance jog, then that implies that there is no stopping. If the recovery is 10 minutes with part of that 10 minutes including a 1200m jog then that is what should be stated as the recovery. It is a lie to say that the recovery was a 1200m jog or 800m jog because he is clearly stopping after each rep and then having interviews with the camera. And that time he is spending doing the interviews is not insignificant to his recovery.
Pointless. Once you jog 5 minutes, heartrate is down so it doesn't matter if you stand another 5 minutes or not. It actualky becomes harder for most people due o stiffening up. I don't care if it was 5 minutes of standing rest or 1200 jog or 1200 jog and 5 minutes standing rest. This kid is ready for 7:55/13:40.

How the f are kids running so fast these days? Nuts. The 3:50 HS miler is not far off gents. Not far off.
Spring loaded shoes. This kid isn't a 4-flat miler in legit footwear. More like a 4:10 guy.
Still fast, obviously, but it's the shoes.
He ran 4:01 as a soph back when the best thing they had was victory elites
He’s a 4:01 guy
Jesus Christ that was insane.
If you didn't show me any times, just the way he looked and was talking between reps, and the fact that he followed it up with 3x400 in 54-high, I would have told you those were 5k pace for him.
Now that would be ridiculous because that would be a 13:10, so OK maybe it was 3200 pace instead? That still produces a 8:26 and honestly those did not look as hard as 3200 race pace.
I have no idea what this kid is capable of but it's got to be something ridiculous.
