It amazes me how people are either so dumb, biased or ill informed about statistics that we can't have an honest discussion on here.
What you wrote is a false statement. It doesn't prove anything. Your risk tolerance is obviously way less than that of many.
The fact of the matter is over 250,000 Americans are being with this every single day. More than 17 million have already tested positive for it.
Some people may think, one or two more getting it is no big deal. You seem to think if one person gets it, then the world must stop but that's your personal belief. Many others do not share that belief. One could actually argue that the race is helping slow the spread of Covdi-19. How?
Well, their extensive pre-race testing caught 2 people with cases of it. Those people may not have never realized they had it if it wasn't for the race. The race may have stopped them from spreading it.
I'm now reading in another post that someone else has tested positive after the race. That doesn't mean squat to me. The reality is roughly 1.5 million Americans tested positive for it last week alone. That's basically 1 in 200 Americans or .5%. Didn't the race have something like 100 participants? So half the time, one person would test positive if we were just following national averages.
Ok, what is your point? First of all, the article doesn't say it was "Likely" the result of Covid. It says possibly. But the good news is they have before and after tests so they will be able to figure it out. The thing is heart specialists this summer looked into this and said widespread MRIs looking for myocarditis wasn't something we should be doing.
What is your solution? None of the 17 million people in the US who have tested positive for Covid should be allowed to play sports again? The reality is freak things happened before Covid. Maybe he is just Hank Gathers #2 and this has nothing to do with Covid-19.
No. it doesn't mean that either. You're talking about 100 people. You'd need a WAY bigger study to prove it.
If I was an elite runner, I would have been happy to sign up for the event. They required two pre-race negatives, kept everyone distanced when no t running, etc. It's a risk I'd be willing to take. Others may feel differently and that's fine.
