There was also a Banaman World Record set in 17:10. We came by the 2 mile in about 10:27 but he faded pretty badly.

Again, that turn was very clearly marked so he must have cut between cones when he made that turn. I don't know if things are a total blur when you're running 4:30 pace, but it does seem illogical that he would take a shortcut while in the lead. Who knows what went on there?
As for the protest, rules are rules. Could the organizers have chosen to give him a 10-second penalty and he would still be the winner? Or are the rules rigid?

If it's up to that starter that was out there I am sure that's why the quick hook on him. He was policing the starting line making everyone that didn't have a shirt on put one on. I saw him force two guys to put one on within 2 minutes of starting the race. They had to go hunt one down and then put the number on the front.
I was standing next to one of those guys - who looked about 50ish. I know the PA rules say runners must be in a team uniform, but I think this guy said he was unattached. So I don't see why the starter made him put a shirt on. Especially in San Francisco - don't people there run in much less than this guy had on anyway?
I think it's a USATF rule someone said, that you have to wear a shirt. Usually just no one inforces it.
The problem of a 10-second penalty is that it's just too arbitrary. Runners are supposed to be held accountable that they familiarized themselves with the course. A 10 second penalty to you and others seems fair because no places have changed. But if that's what you want then why assess a time penalty at all? Would 10 seconds be called for if the 2nd place guy was 1 second behind?
Carmelo Rios right on Reidy's A**, some things never change :-)
ah yes, article 21.1 in the usatf rules.
http://pausatf.org/data/LDRGuide.html#I21.0
dont see anything on cutting courses, though.
You guys are missing the important thing here. A world record!!! Was it Graham again?
I would imagine that USATF's rules would provide the backbone:
rule 163.6.c ?
I don't care if Bolota won by a minute. You cut the course, you get DQ'd. Play by the rules or don't play. Good for the official who caught him.
For the record... I DON'T think Bolota deserved to be DQ'd.. and whoever is posting as "6th place" was definitely NOT in 6th place.
Maybe he is now. This is all a big Transports conspiracy.
Gilmore didn't file the protest. You didn't. Riley couldn't have - he and Bolota were chatting friendly after the race and they're old teammates. Do the math.

if someone had to actually "file a protest," i wonder if they would have ignored this is there was no protest filed. mustve come from a runner, not a usatf official? just wondering.
I get it I get it..Boulet Boulet Boulet! But why would he rat on Bolota? What does he gain from it?
Isn't Bei still in college? so then does Boulet's wife get 1st place prize money?
Does seem petty for an extra 25 smackers each for him and Bryce, doesn't it? It's more of an ego thing with those guys. The PA circuit is their territory.
Whatever, I'm just kidding. But I get if Brad is pissed that someone's posing as "6th place". But like I said, he's now 5th so maybe the poster was Moreno.

i thought 1st place prize was your body weight's worth of bananas. no?
Not quite. It's your post-race plasma volume worth of "strawberry tsunami" smoothies. Would you like a free boost with that? Yes please, I'll have the BALCO boost.
This is an awesome thread. Yeah, I was told to put a shirt on as well. I ignored him though, seeing as how I certainly wasn't going to win any USATF prize money. Does anyone know who that starter was? First time I've had someone tell me to put on a shirt for a local 5k...
