Naming schools after politicians (or even people, now that I think of it) is dumb anyways. 60% of voters voted AGAINST Lincoln!
They should let businesses and/or websites pay for the naming rights, like stadiums.

NYC used to have Woodrow Wilson HS
Andrew Jackson HS, Alexander Hamilton HS, Ben Franklin HS, and other high schools named after politicians. They were changed to honor civil rights leaders.
I fully understand people having an opinion on this topic, even a strong one. What I'll never understand is the lack of perspective on the importance of said topic. Remember when the prospect of Twinkies disappearing forever had people going crazy? How about Obama wearing a tan suit? People just call a high school by its name and don't even really think about it. And for those who would like to see California secede, please look up the value of California's economy as well as all the products they grow and export to all the other states.

I agree. I'd like to see every school around the country renamed in the manner of the schools in NYC. PS1, PS2, PS3 and so on. "Go PS238! We're #1 - uhh #238!"

Fake news. Someone proposed the name change, but hasn't been decided yet.
Many people propose stupid things. Hopefully no one will do anything about this one.
No , it's not "San Francisco" that wants to change school names and the Mayor is not supporting the committee's recommendations.

I'd like to know who made it to the short list of candidates for whom the school will be renamed. I'm pretty sure I can find a moral flaw in his/her/their character and something that would be considered offensive to someone in their past behavior and/or thoughts.
I don't think liberals care about moral flaws, or they wouldn't be exalting people like George Floyd. It really comes down to how "woke" a person is. Don't be surprised to see O.J. Simpson get the nod on the re-naming here. It's in his hometown, and his trial was the first to showcase a gang of racist white cops conspiring to frame an innocent black man for murder.
Lol liberals. Someone looks at OJ and comes away with this conclusion.
A false headline left up on Letsrun? I'm shocked.
Are they going to rename it home wrecker high school?

Lol. Bets on when MLK gets formally cancelled? How about Mandela?
MLK and Mandela make a guy like Weinstein look like a prude.
I'm surprised Precious Roy hasn't posted in here yet defending the decision as a vital step toward racial equality, or some such nonsense

San Francisco was founded on June 29, 1776 (a long time ago), when colonists (what does AOC say about that) from Spain (a European country considered part of so-called Western Civilization) established the Presidio of San Francisco (a military presence) and Mission San Francisco de Asís (part of the Christian Roman Catholic Church) a few miles away, both named for Francis of Assisi (a preacher and old white dude).
So, when does San Francisco change its entirely un-woke name?
Thank you. Here is one clarification: St. Francis of Assisi (1181/1182-1226) was about 44 when he died... not especially old.

The ONLY people worth honoring! WOKE UP PEOPLE.
Perfect fake news
Some woke teacher made a suggestion to a committee.
It wasn't about black lives - it was suggested that Lincoln's policies towards native Americans weren't very nice. That's true.

I mean most people up until this point in history lauded Honest Abe for freeing black slaves in the U.S., but it is 2020 and I guess even that isn't good enough these days. I am not going to give whoever's idea this was the benefit of the doubt and think that this decision was done out of good faith, and assume this was just another attention-grabbing move done by sad, pathetic people on a little power trip.
Makes sense really.
In fact, Abraham Lincoln is not seen as much of a hero at all among many American Indian tribes and Native peoples of the United States, as the majority of his policies proved to be detrimental to them. For instance, the Homestead Act and the Pacific Railway Act of 1862 helped precipitate the construction of the transcontinental railroad, which led to the significant loss of land and natural resources, as well as the loss of lifestyle and culture, for many tribal people. In addition, rampant corruption in the Indian Office, the precursor of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, continued unabated throughout Lincoln’s term and well beyond. In many cases, government-appointed Indian agents outright stole resources that were supposed to go to the tribes.
In other cases, the Lincoln administration simply continued to implement discriminatory and damaging policies, like placing Indians on reservations. Beginning in 1863, the Lincoln administration oversaw the removal of the Navajos and the Mescalero Apaches from the New Mexico Territory, forcing the Navajo to march 450 miles to Bosque Redondo—a brutal journey. Eventually, more than 2,000 died before a treaty was signed.
Several massacres of Indians also occurred under Lincoln’s watch. For example, the Dakota War in Minnesota in 1862 led to the hanging of thirty-eight Indian men—303 Indian men had been sentenced to hang, but the others were spared by Lincoln’s pardon. The Sand Creek Massacre in southeastern Colorado in 1864 also resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Cheyenne and Arapaho.
It doesn't matter that Snopes claims that this is false. People will reframe and believe what they want to believe. Sigh.
Part of the reason people are leaving California in droves
