No no no Average being 13 minutes means that most people can walk a 10 minute mile at best. You're speaking of walking. I have a PB of 19:35 in 5K My marathon PB is just below 4:10.... and 13 minutes per mile is still a workout.... I have walked a 1/2 marathon at an 11:23 pace.... Which is at 87% of 13 minutes. So unless you're Philip Dunn or Tim Seaman, I doubt you know what you're speaking about. Honestly, at a 63% in general runner/walker.....at 11:23.....the average would be closer to 18:06...on average. You're full of it.

This is some failed reading comprehension. I start off my post saying "not average walking pace" and you go on to interpret it as average walking pace. Just fail. Also as I said earlier, 13min/mile is the point where walking and running mechanics converge, as in you could feasibly do either at this speed.

Unless you have spent more than an hour at a pace quicker than 13 minutes/mile....i have and can prove it...you aren't qualified to speak about averages for walking.

As someone who used speedwalking as a means to get back into running after a major back injury, you have a LOT to prove to me that you know more about the walking aspect.
Unless you know what it even feels like to WALK a sub 10 mile, you'd best just shut it.

If you don't agree with him, that's fine, but 13min/mile isn't just some random number that popped into my head.
With a 40lb ruck, in boots and uniform, you're expected to walk @ a 15:00 mile.
Even with my stubby legs I can walk at 12-13:00 mile.
I can airborne shuffle/light jog at 9-11:00 mile.
During day to day PT your average military bro is jogging 9:00 mile....maybe down to 8:00 if he's in shapes
So, it's totally believable that someone in the general population is jogging at 10-11:00 mile.

Why not apply the race walking rules? If both feet are off the ground at any point it is running, it isn't fast running but that is a completely subjective number anyway. It is interesting to put on a Garmin and see what is the fastest walking pace you can sustain for a mile while not changing your gait to race walking or jogging.

I was once a 34:30 10k, 2:56 marathoner. Now at 49, my averaging training pace is around 11:00 per mile. I can not break 27 for a 5k right now. I average about 20 mpw. I am 5'10" 175lbs. No major health issues. I personally am really working hard to walk even 1 mile at 14:00.
54 yo male with master’s “ PRs” of 22:45, 48:26, 1:48:25. My recovery runs are typically 11-11:20 min pace; HR stays at 120

What was the point of your post though? You seem to already know your answer regardless of what people respond. Perhaps it’s their run and your jog? What’s the point of technicalities... Let it go maybe? Exercise is great for body and mind so let people do it at their pace and you at yours, problem solved! As that fraud Mel Robbins would say “let them.”
I'm really tall so the point where my running mechanics turn to walking is about 10:00 per mile. If its slower than 10:00 pace I'd just walk briskly. Instead of "running" at 11:00 pace, just walk on an incline quickly. It'd be better for you anyway.
