I felt the 2004's were a good shoe but seemed to degenerate quicker than the earlier versions, leaving them pretty lifeless after a couple of hundred miles.
I preferred the initial feel of the 2004's but the longevity of the earlier versions was much better.
Apart from the popping air horror story above any other comments on the 2005 with this in mind? I am thinking of moving away from Pegasus for something that keeps it's balls a bit longer. Adidas Supernova any good?
I also just had the forefoot air in mine pop after about 50mi of running in them. Plus to go along with everyone else the 2005 has a stiffer more rigid feel unlike the 2000's which were like running on clouds. The only good thing about them is that they are lighter.
Actually, there is one (nearly) full-lenth air unit, so if it popped, it is the whole midsole rather than just the forefoot.
I found the Mizuno Wave Aero to remind me most of the 2000 Pegasus. Light, nicely cushioned (but not too squishy), and very smooth.
I got a pair and after 50 miles, the left shoe started to squeak like a half dead rabbit. Can't hear it on trails, but on pavement it is annoying. Cheap.
i really like the feel of the 2004. they seemed lighter, and more responsive than the 2005. i really dont know what to say abou the new ones..they seem a little off. they seem really hard. i still cant decide if i like them..so until i do. im going to keep wearing my motos and my 04's.
Can you go into more detail about why you think the Motos suck?
The 2000 Pegasus was the last good version, for my taste. Since then I found them far too stiff and lacking in heel cushion. I've tried the subsequent versions as well as a few other shoes and have come to favor Addidas' Boston Classic.
I've been buying the wide Pegs for ~20 yrs. The 2005 width is OK, but the laces are short for my foot. Maybe the short laces are forcing me to tie a little tighter in order to have enough length for a knot, though I've tried not to. For whatever reason, the upper foot tendon from my big toe (on both feet!!) is bruised from running in the 05 Pegs. Did Nike change the position of the inside lace row so that it is now exactly over that tendon? Or did something else change that could explain the tendon bruising?
Go Asics ! Nike is a very inconsistant product. I started running in Nikes in 70's and gave up on them when they became inconsistant in the early 90's...I tried a new pair for the heck of it last year. They were flat and hard as boards after 3 weeks of running. I sent them back to the company and they returned them with a form letter saying there was nothing wrong with them. Tough luck. I wrote them another letter and never heard anything. Poor Customer Service. If you find a Nike shoe you like, do'nt worry, they are sure to change it for the worse or discontinue it.....I do'nt reccomend Nike to anyone. I do'nt like Nike as a company...
Too bad you wasted the postage. I could have told you. NIKE bites the big one now and I refuse to wear any apparel of any sort. I got a free tee shirt and gave it away.

I bought two pairs of the 2k5 Peggies and they are my least favorite. I've been running in Pegasus since the original battleship gray flats and these are just awful. In fact, I'm not especially thrilled with any of their flats right now. Nike would probably make a good chunk of change by having stores which could offer out of date models. I loved the 2002 Pegasus and the old Anodynes and the Huarches and haven't been impressed with much since. The Air Max and the Shox just seem to be fundraisers and that is unfortunate for a company which says that it prides itself on progress. And don't even get me started on the Air Structures!
Ahh, the Huraches! I got a pair as soon as they came out and hit the roads immediately. My PF flared up so badly I limped home (a few mile limp). I remember that run like it was yesterday (and it was 1988, probably). They were chartreuse, which was particularly loud in those days.

pegasus lover's may also want to try on the new Moto's ... pretty soft shoe. i think they're very comfortable.
IS there a shoe with the shape and structure of the Zoom Elite but with a softer sole? I like the foot feel of the shoe, but I agree that the shoes are too hard.
I love the soles of the Mizuno Wave Rider, but the rest of the shoe is too unstable for me - I want to combine the two shoes.
(P.S. I'm female if that makes a difference.)
