Brazier and Engels Friday Night Time Trial! (Did Brazier really run 3:35.85 and look like he was jogging?)

This is like something a coach texts another coach about an 800 guy at 1500 or conference rival or teammates time trial or conference win. In fact I think I’ve gotten a text like this about an 800 guy running the 1500.

“Ran 3:54 and looked like he was jogging.”

I don’t really get the “looked like he was jogging” thing.

If it was easy he would run faster.

Could just mean that he wasn't losing his form/tying up at all.

This isn’t about marketing dude. None of the athletes nor the coaches wanted people to come to this meet. I thought this was a troll post at first but it was real. If they wanted people to know about it they would have posted about it. But they didn’t because they didn’t want people to know!

This makes sense. This makes a very nice interval workout for Rupp and Brazier, following up a 1:44 800 with a 1:13 600. But Engels should finish it out with them instead of stopping at 800 unless he's been having injury issues.

Something fishy about that workout...

But back to the main topic at hand. Should we hand Donavan double 800 and 1500 gold or just give him like 1500 bronze at this point?

Kudos to Engels for getting after it! Gotta test those limits! Perfectly paced and/or neg split time trials bore me.

Hey Cheesenuts, the Stitchmo never trolls okay. I just had a big night last night and just rolled out of bed. Brazier a ball hair under 3.36 (sorry no splits as yet, working on it) and Engels 1.48 with a substantial meltdown in the final 250 after ripping the first lap in just under 51.

Also, I have details of the sprint meet happening at Montverde academy today - will post on a new thread.

I was at the meet last night Don did not run that fast! Came though 800m in 1:55 and then died and ran 3:48 for a 1500m. Thought he’d run faster dude needs to run more mileage.

The fact that coaches are designing time trials as “meets” and don’t want people to know proves part of my point. The fact that we’re stuck reading about these races, after the fact, or without streaming access, for example, is a lost opportunity to reach out to fans and would-be fans who might’ve gotten excited about these efforts. Although privacy is the coaches’ prerogative, privacy breeds further anonymity for numerous (virtually all) professional athletes who can’t make a living in our sport.

Somewhat true, but they will be livestreaming meets in the future. This "race" was just a workout and the BTC meet was thrown together last minute. I expect they'll get things sorted out and more of these races in the coming weeks will be streamed.

Why isn't everybody complaining about the lack of coverage or is that just a bias against the bowerman group only?

I understand what you’re saying, but this is just a time trial. I would get it if this was some national level meet, but it’s just two guys running races they don’t normally run and happen to be world class runners. I mean, I just watched the Bowerman races on YouTube and those had to be the most boring races I’ve ever seen. I dunno, being there in person would probably be more exciting. Pete Julians decision to have this race be some lowkey is completely understandable though. He doesn’t want people coming to watch, and he doesn’t care enough to set up a live stream and that’s not a bad thing. These guys just want to put their heads down and grind and that’s ok. Running really isn’t a marketable sport towards non runners. The only way to change that is to add more variation in races, get athletes to open up more and hope they have likeable personalities, or get people involved in running.

Sure it would’ve been cool to see Donovan Brazier run, but I think it’s more because it’s Brazier than we’re missing racing. There’s so much content on YouTube of past races and I’m sure there’s plenty many have never seen before. When stuff like this gets live-streamed we see someone get paced and cross the line with no competition, no fans, no nothing. I feel like that would turn more people away than bring them in. If anything, what the sport needs now is more of these “flashback” videos that Bowerman is doing. If FloTrack just released a bunch of content or workout Wednesday’s without having to pay, that would get people interested.

Did you read the thread? Everyone is complaining about the coverage. Even the post immediately above your post.

I don’t think it is too much to ask that someone takes a video and posts it to YouTube. Ok you don’t want anyone showing up, but there is no reason a video can’t be taken and posted after it is over.

He would not even advance to the semi finals. You're always exaggerating a lot when it comes to American runners.
