it defies all belief that anyone could have run the boston marathon - or any marathon, but especially boston - and not recall the year or the time he ran it in.

if your co-worker told you he ran boston, but does not know what his time was, or the year, you would call him out as the liar he is. the same should be done here, unless you are ok with being lied to.

isn't the start of the boston marathon 26 miles away from the finish? that means kerry would have to drive out there wouldn't he? or did kerry run to the start? hmmmm...26 miles, no training, no memory.....hmmmmm. did he get a ride with chandra bozelko? what's on scott douglass' website about the kerry phony marathon? i didn't read anything about it?

interestingly, kerry tells some people he did it in the 70s and now espn he did it in the 80s.

as an aside, fwiw, george bush ran the houston marathon in 1993. time: 3:44.

what is interesting is that so many people are so willing to overlook an obvious lie as he panders to get votes from runners, as if running a marathon is a reason to vote for someone.

The question of whether or not Kerry ran the Boston Marathon is politically motivated. We're not talking about Webb or Ritz; we're talking about a presidential candidate. Since Kerry is clearly not a "runner" per se, and you are concerning yourself whether he ran or not, you are also guilty of whining about politics.... asshole.

kerry is a famous person in the news. he makes a stmt about running a marathon that is not very believeable so it gets discussed.

i think most runners who have run a marathon get a little peeved when someone says they did it, but did not do it. it sort of cheapens the accomplishment of the person who did make the effort, train and then run the race did.

whether it is a pres candidate that lies about it or your co-worker, it upsets people.

Kerry isn't a runner. He ran Boston back in the 70s or 80s probably on a lark, like a lot of midpack shufflers do. It's very believable that he wouldn't remember the exact year or his time if he doesn't take running as seriously as the average joe.

if they existed in the early 80s that means kerry had to run another marathon even before it, but he made no mention of that.

I ran at the Olympic's and made the finals, but I forget the year and my time! But it was great!!! Sorry most be old folks disease.

There is no proof that Kerry started, Kerry finished, Kerry DNF'd, or Kerry cheated. For all we know, Kerry is confusing the almighty Boston Marathon with some podunk 5K that he ran in Boston. I agree that highly unlikely considering his education, but I suppose it's possible. Would it not be funny if he came back wtih that excuse?

Do I believe that Kerry ran a marathon. Heck no! I remember the time I ran in my two marathons. I get a little vague about which years I ran, but you never forget a time, even if it's a crappy time. I bet most marathoners saved their numbers from their first marathon.

For non-runners, there are the milestones... sub-3, sub-4, sub-5, etc. Nimrod Kerry shouldn't have thought it possible to make a claim like that and not be expected to back it up. Most runners knew that Carter, Clinton and Bush were joggers (so as not to insult htose of us who RUN), and to make a claim of Boston was a stupid thing to do.

I wonder if he remembers his qualifying race. Maybe there's some record of that.

Ya know what, some dooshbags like Kerry think that running a local turkey trot 5K at Boston is the same as running the Boston Marathon. Any road race that is longer than a mile is considered a "marathon" to these folks....

I think he really did run it. I remember watching Kerry in an Interview a year or two ago and he was talking to another senator. Somehow Boston came up and Kerry and I believe Kerry said he ran it. The other Senator siad he didn't think he could qualify so I believe Kerry was like "you want to run Boston?" I believe he somehow got the other senator in the race or offered to get him in the race.
