Link? There's nothing on the athletics website.
After the men won indoors, I wonder what/who prompted the resignation. His record in XC hasn't been fantastic, and outdoor was pretty disappointing following a championship for the men indoors, but SFU doesn't seem to like pushing people out in a hurry.
Yes it is true that Moreno has resigned. Expect a link to be up soon. SFU has a young squad with a lot of potential and will hoping for some qualified coaches to apply for the job.
Has he taken another job?? If not, his resignation sounds more like the administration pushed him out. I know a few people from St. Francis, and they have told me his coaching and leadership has been fairly poor.
Nonetheless, should be interesting to see the applicants for this program. Hopefully, they will appoint someone with excellent experience, knowledge, and communication skills. They have some talented; it just needs to be developed.
What sort of talent do they have? I know of Sell and Sheehan from past teams, but that is about it.
Heres the link
Wow, I can't believe this job is officially open....there have been some rumors in the last year, and it now looks like they were true.
This guy alienated a pretty good staff that was left over from other head coaches. Most moved on to other or better jobs (UMBC, Notre Dame come to mind)to get away from Felix.
St. Francis has been going down hill since Donner left. Their AD is one of the best guys going and I am sure that he'll find someone who can get things going in a positive direction.
Felix really burned a lot of bridges and was a horrible coach. They really need to bring in a whole new staff.
Krimmel, the AD, should be able to bring in some really good candidates with the early summer job posting. Hopefully, St. Francis can hire a good, experienced coach who can guide the men's team to a NEC XC championship this fall.

Do you expect that AD to bring in a magician? This fall? Really? They are terrible in the distance events right now.
Why did Moreno really resign? He said more time to devote to family in the release. No XC/T&F Coach spends a lot of time with their family - at least not during the months of November - May.
It's the NEC. If it was the Big 10 I would agree but its the NEC. They can win conferences with the guys they have. Especially if they find a coach who wasn't a sprint coach like in the last 2 years.

What the hell are you talking about? After switching coaches for the indoor and outdoor season, Saint Francis easily had the best distance guys in the conference.

Yes, the guy's team placed 6th at NEC's last fall because they were being coached by FELIX MORENO....if you haven't noticed, he was a terrible coach. During track, the distance runners were coached by Mircea Bogdan, a graduate assistant who was the 2005 NCAA steeple champ while at UTEP. Mircea has now graduated, however.
After Mircea started coaching the guys in Dec., they ran (all underclassmen, some returning from injury sustained under Felix):
#1 30:53 10k, 15:02 5k - freshman
#2 14:56 5k - sophomore
#3 15:25 5k - freshman
#4 15:31 5k - redshirt freshman
And only two of these guys broke 28 min. at Holmdel on Nov. 1, 2008.

I agree....sounds shady...I think he got fired.
I guess I don't know how weak the NEC is in men's distance running. Good to hear the men showed some improvement, but those times are not all that fast for DI - heck they would (provided they had a #5 running 15:35 for 5k) have a hard time finishing much better than 8th in the DIII Mideast Region.
It is amazing though the difference that some solid coaching can make. No one under 28:00 and then four that "fast" at the end of the spring ... a little knowledge goes a long way.
I hope the AD / college makes a good decision in hiring the next coach. Honestly, from all the chatter on the board and word of mouth, they have failed miserably the last two times.
Wow if he got fired.....Kevin Donner posted back in February that SFU usually doesn't can coaches very quickly. they must not have been happy with Moreno.
My friend Felix is sure taking a beating on this thread. Coach Moreno works people hard. Some benefit, some don't, but he's not a terrible coach. I ran my best races ever under him and I know of several others who significantly improved under his direction as well.
That's because you were a sprinter. Try being a distance runner.
Catone wasn't a bad coach, but it seemed like the St. Francis environment didn't keep his interest for very long. He knew how to get good performances out of most of his athletes, though his style didn't agree with everyone.
Moreno did burn a lot of bridges. To be fair to the AD/University, the team lobbied for Moreno because of the way he pitched himself in his job talk. Unfortunately, his actual coaching was much different than advertised (he was not, in fact, interested in collaboration). Moreno seemed to be great at getting atheltes to perform well in events shorter than their actual race distance.
Things really have gone downhill since Donner left. It would be nice to see a new coach at St. Francis who could get them back on top.
I am pretty sure Catone was a distance guy. The year after he left SFU lost to DIII Juniata in a dual meet (pretty sure they were just inside the top 15 in DIII Mideast Region).
If the team lobbied for Felix it seems they were fooled during the interview process.
I wish SFU the best in their upcoming search.
As one of the distance guys, I just want to make it clear that not all of us were fooled by Felix's bull shitting. Some of us wanted the other candidates...unfortunately, Felix won over many of the girls and a few of the guy sprinters with his charming ways and promises...therefore, he won the majority.
Some of us have waited two long years for this resignation/firing, and we are excited to finally have a chance to find a coach who will fit well with our university.
