In one of the most stunning performances in marathoning history, mile world record holder Sifan Hassan came from behind to win her marathon debut in London over arguably the greatest field ever assembled.

On a day when the conditions caused all of the other top male and female competitors to slow down and run positive splits, Kelvin Kiptum recorded the fastest half-marathon split in history during his second half and won by nearly three minutes.

Geoffrey Kamworor gets a full minute pb in 2nd (previous pb of 2:05:23). Emile Caress runs 2:08:07 in his debut for top British honors as Mo Farah runs 2:10:28 in his final London as an elite.

Eliud, Kelvin Kiptum might soon get your WR and achieve GOAT status. Dude was sprinting all out at the finish. Two marathons back to back in the 2:01s!!

Anyone get the last 400 split? I had the last 600 if the BBC clock on the screen was right in 1:50 which is 73.33 pace.
I timed the last 385 yards (352 meters) in 64.1 seconds) which is 72.8 400 pace.

I don't know how the hell Hassan did that. She had to train for the last month during Ramadan -- no fluids during the day barring a medical emergency. She stopped twice to strech her quad during mile 12, got dropped by 11 seconds at halfway, almost missed her bottle at 40k and still made it look easy in the home straight. One of the most remarkable races I've ever seen. --JG

BTW, while Sifan Hassan was winning the women's race, Kelvin Kiptum dropped a 13:49 split from 30k to 35k in the men's race. He now leads by 28 seconds and is on pace to run 2:02:00.

Hassan, a world champ at 1500m who had to stop 2x to stretch her quad during mile 12, comes from behind to beat one of the greatest marathon fields ever in her debut. pic.twitter.com/yKy1nrVFy3

We are going to hit 1 mile to go with 5 women in the lead pack including Sifan Hassan. We'll see if the person with the most 'speed' wins or not. I've always said, "it's the person with the most speed left, not the most speed that wins." We'll see if that's true.

Kelvin Kiptum, who split 28:05 from 30-40k to win Valencia last year, is doing something similar right now in London. Just ran a 4:33 19th mile to rip apart the men's pack and is looking great. pic.twitter.com/ahD7j0P3nu

Pacers off in men's race and Kelvin Kiptum is making a big push, stringing things out just after 30k. Geoffrey Kamworor is looking good and trying to hang with him, but a gap is opening...

Women's race slowing up front, 5:19 for mile 21, 5:22 for mile 22, a glacial 5:33 for mile 23. What does that mean?

Sifan Hassan has rejoined the leaders. We are set up for quite a finish... pic.twitter.com/kHvCihOwWa

Hassan is 5th right now at 35k. Frankly, this is astonishing. She said before the race she thought she was in better 5/10k shape. Then she stops to stretch her quad TWICE before halfway. And she's on track to run 2:17. All this from a woman with a 1:56 800m pb... pic.twitter.com/UAi6TIplW4

Kelvin Kiptum keeps surging ahead of the pacers at the drinks stations. At 25k, he went in front again and the pacer had to signal for him to cool it. He closed in 60:15 in Valencia for his second half, could we something special again today?

Men's race in London at halfway. Set up for a good one up front, with Kelvin Kiptum looking great. But keep an eye on the battle for top Brit. Mo Farah through halfway in 63:38, but Emile Cairess, in his debut, is only 8 seconds back and on pace for a 2:07:31... pic.twitter.com/8LT7n1X9GQ

Sifan Hassan, who was 12 seconds back at 20k, was gaining on women's leaders and just 3 seconds back at 30k. Looked to be an incredible story, until Peres Jepchirchir decided to throw in a surge. Women's lead pack down to 4 now -- Jepchirchir, Yalemzerf, Megertu, and Sheila Chepkirui.
