Round 1 of the Men's 100m Hurdles: 2009 World Championshiop Dayron Robles Struggles with Injury The big news in the heats was world record holder and Olympic champ Dayron Robles of Cuba used a late charge to get third in his heat and be the last automatic qualifier for the semis. Robles revealed afterwards he was not taking it easy. He is battling an injury but promised Fidel Castro a gold. He said, "I feel pain in my left thigh. I do not know what is going on. I thougt it was only a small problem but now I know that I really have a problem. On the occasion of his birthday some days ago, I promised Fidel Castro to bring home the gold medal for him. And I want ot keep my promise. I am a warrior, I will fight! The cross I wear around my neck is very important for me, I wore it when I won Olympic gold and set the World record." Aries Merritt of the US went out in round 1.
