New York City Half-Marathon Moves To The Spring
By David Monti NEW YORK (01-Dec) -- The New York Road Runners announced today via their website that the fifth edition of the popular NYC Half-Marathon will take place next spring instead of the summer. The previous four editions of the race had been held in July and August. "Make history by being part of the first-ever spring running of the NYC Half-Marathon," reads the statement at NYRR.org. "Interest is high from runners around the world, making New York City the place to be on March 21." By moving the race to the early spring, the NYC Half-Marathon will be well-positioned for both elite and recreational runners who intend to run one of the big spring marathons. The race will be three weeks before Milano and Paris (Apr. 11), four weeks before Boston (Apr. 19) and five weeks before London (Apr. 26). Last year's race was held in warm and very humid conditions on Aug. 16, and the winners were Ethiopia's Tadese Tola in 1:01:06, and Britain's Paula Radcliffe in 1:09:45. The event records are 59:24 by Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie set in 2007, and 1:09:43 by Kenya's Catherine Ndereba set in 2006. More information on the race and a link to a lottery application are at this link: http://www.nyrr.org/races/
