Meb Keflezighi to Bypass 2007 US Cross Country Championships
From HAWI Management
February 8, 2007

Meb and Coach Bob Larsen have decided for Meb to bypass the USA Cross Country Championships this weekend in Boulder, Colorado.  Meb has been training in altitude in Mammoth for almost a month with a goal of running Cross Country Nationals.  He has been up there away from his family, with a commitment to maximize his fitness.  Meb had a pretty severe cold that reduced his ability to run intense workouts for a few days last week.  This minor setback, combined with unpredictable race day conditions in Boulder, and Meb’s focus on perfect preparation for the Flora London Marathon contributed to the decision to bypass the Cross Country Championships.  “Pete Julian has put together a wonderful event.  It will be a great competition and there are several candidates for the win and to represent USA at the World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa, Kenya.  I wish I could be there, but at this point in time, my focus is on preparing for the Flora London Marathon, and every decision I make will be to enhance my preparation for London,” said Meb.  Meb will still be prominently featured in the upcoming documentary, the Showdown.  The documentary will take a look at the challenge of race selection for someone like Meb, who is one of the most versatile runners in the world, and one of America’s best in the 5k, 10k, cross country, road racing, half marathon and marathon.  http://www.showdownrace.com/trailer_low.php
