USATF Announces 2007 USA Running Circuit Schedule: US 8k and 10k Champs Are Back USATF announced the 11 events that will be hosting its road national championships in 2007. The good news is that the men's 8k championships and 10k championships are back on the schedule. The men's 8k champs took a one year hiatus in 2006, as the New York Road Runners hosted the USA XC Champs instead. The men's 2006 10k championships (Senior Bowl in Mobile, Al) was cancelled after initially being on the 2006 schedule. In 2007, the Peachtree Road Race, one of the most prestigious road races in the world, will host the US men's 10k championships. The 2007 US Championship schedule ends with the biggest championship of the year, the men's Olympic Marathon Trials in New York, and its $250,000 payday. This men's marathon trials will be the first time the trials have been held in the fall of the year prior to the Olympics. (There was some concern with the Trials in 2007, there would not be a US men's championship in 2008, but it has been announced that the Twin Cities Marathon will host the USA men's marathon championship in 2008). The Aramco Houston Half Marathon in 2007 has increased its US prize money by 42% from 2006 to $29,750 on both the men's and women's side. The Gate River Run also is increasing its prize money, while the New Alliance New Haven Road Race is decreasing its US money.
*Figures above from a compilation of the 2006 USATF USA Running Circuit Prize Page and the individual race prize pages. When we noticed discrepancies we went with the race prize page. With races with both men's and women's championships the prize money is only for 1 sex. *USATF Press Release on 2007 Circuit editor's note: an earlier version of this story said the women's 8k championship was back in 2007. This is incorrect. The NYRR did host a 2005 8k women's championship but only the men's championship is being brought back this year.
