Olympic Marathon Trials Qualifying Opportunity at Shamrock Virginia Beach Marathon on March 18, 2006 Press Release
The race directors at the pancake-flat Shamrock Virginia Beach Marathon have generously made some prize money and amenities available to those wishing to attempt Olympic Trials qualifiers there in March. Those participating would be eligible for: -Overall winner prize money of about $1000 (final value to be determined) -Top American prize money of about $200 (final value to be determined) -Olympic Trials Qualifier prize money of about $200 for the A and $100 for the B standard (final value to be determined) -Hotel room right at the start line -Possible partial travel expenses (tentative and amounts to be determined) -VIP treatment pre- and post-race (dinner etc) -Free entry
Qualifications for this program are not set in stone, but anyone seriously considering a qualifying attempt with realistic PRs are welcomed to join in; the larger the group, the better everyone's chances. If you are thinking of attempting a qualifier in the spring, this course and the usual decent weather deserve consideration. We are hoping to have at least two rabbits to lead through the usual miles where wind can be an issue (miles 10-13).
